Hi, I'm still new to this group, but starting to realize that the
subject matter is a lot larger than I had previously guessed. For
example, recently I learned about Akhenaten and Nefertiti, where
previously I had only known about Tutankhamen. Plus I've heard of
Khufu and Ramses but evidently they're from a much earlier period...
so wow! Where do I start? I am not a historian, so all of this is
new to me.
I thought it'd be neat to find out what all of you 'experts' think is
the best period of time in Ancient Egypt - and by that, I mean, what
time you find most interesting/intriguing?
And I'd like to extend that up to modern times (even though this is an
Ancient Egypt group). I read a neat web-travelogue about Egypt the
other day and realized that even modern Egypt is an interesting place
and has gone through quite a lot in the last 400 years.
Thanks for your consideration!

The 'best' periods depend on where your interests lie. The most common
periods in Egyptian history are the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New
Kingdom, and the Ptolemaic era. The Old Kingdom is around the time that the
pyramids were built, the civilisation reached its peak during the New
Kingdom, which is where you find names such as Akhenaten, Nefertiti,
Tutankhamen, Ramesses and Hatshepsut to name a few. Ptolemaic Egypt began
with the conquest of Alexander the Great, the country was previously under
Persian rule and finished with the death of Cleopatra after which Egypt was
absorbed into the Roman Empire. Personally I find a qreat starting place to
familiarise yourself with this amazing culture is the New Kingdom, as there
is a wealth of information about this era due to the survival of many texts,
tombs and artifacts from this time. Art and culture were at their peak and
the country was at its richest. Good luck with your voyage of discovery of
the wonderful place that is ancient Egypt.

I am not expert, but .... clearly most interesting is around Akhenaten
time.
This is time where god of old testament had influence of pharah. I believe
moses was priest of Akhjanaten time.
... some tablets were found... tut was just few year after him... and exodus
was probably after that too.
Remember that lots of bible is historical even, regardless of you believe
god part of it or not.

Fascinating! What is the earliest civilization that the Bible
mentions? Just curious!

Well actually Akhenaten's hem to the Aten is mentioned in the bible under
Psalms 104. So Akhenaten's Monotheism is mentioned in the bible of his hymn
to the Aten. So back in those times I believe that maybe Moses was a
student of Akhenaten's or even maybe he married into the family since we
think that Nefertiti came from Midian hense that is where Moses wife came
from also is Midian. So this leaves us with maybe and I am saying maybe
because there is no proof to back me up in this that Akhenaten and Moses was
related by being married to sisters one being Nefertiti and the other being
Zapora (spelling on Zapora's name)... I wish there would be more looking
into this theroy of Akhenaten and Moses being related by marriage to sisters
or even more one in the same man alot of people think that Akhenaten and
Moses are the same man. I wish that the real Archeologist would put more
effort in finding the real truth behind these two important men in time or
actually tell us the truth behind them. I guess we have to wait like
everyone else to wounder what actually took place back during this time
peroid. But I find Akhenaten a very fasinating man and also his era.

Cool....
I recall moses was adapted... So at one point i was thinking....
Nefertiti got akhenaten in to monothism too so perhaps she would be the
jewish sympathiser
who adapted moses... Especially when they had 6 daughters...
Though it seems killing of jewish male baby would have occured probably
after akhenaten.

Some believe Adam is from aten's garden, while others think abum (or
something like that) first babylonian king. I thought akhanaten was good
model for adam.
Vocanic eruption of santoni....
I think most think it was Atlantis....
And either or both noah/joseph was related to it or simlar natural disaster.
Basically like a nuclear winter cause by vocano or large asteroid hitting
earth. For example, advanced math skill of joseph can be attributed to
atlantis/minoan people.

Exactly which "Moses" are you referring to phoneyemail?: Amosis;
Tutmosis; or one of the several others? Or maybe a specific,
particular "Moses/Mosis?"
