Did people see it and like it?
I notice its come out as a DVD, and plan to invest the ten hours to
watch it.
Due to reconfiguration of my cable company, I was able to swee the
first
season by not the second.
I like the "upstairs/downstairs" plot of the first season,
plus the certain raunchiness.

The ending of the second season was completely ridiculous and totally
disappointing because it threw all history out of the window in favour of a
conspiracy theory. The way it was written and acted in the last two episode
looked like the characters were copied straight out of Red Sonja (the
deposed king and his fat bodyguard).

Is this a DVD of the recent BBC TV series? If so it is essentially a
fictional drama based on actual events. I enjoyed it.

Shakespeare's Macbeth is almost totally fictional as it has a very
English bias. It is still a masterpiece.

It's the original broadcast of the BBC/HBO series.

Also the research about ordinary life in Rome was good.  Yes it did take
a few liberties with the history.

It's a good watch, well produced, good production values, good acting. If you
liked the first season you will like this one.

You might want to try the library or rental store before deciding to buy it.

With all the money they spent on it you'd have expected them to have shown
the naval battle between Octavian and Marc Anthony but they showed none of
it, not even in CGI. It's just like Alexander where they totally ignored the
battle of Tyre which was fought at sea.

I prefer to think it is better because they didn't. And given the audience
enamored with bible epics they would probably think the depiction of the ships
is all wrong.

For the record, CGI of scenes at sea which are other than placid are very
expensive and still don't look right. Water is difficult to make look right
with any kind of splashing and waves interacting with objects. The best I have
seen of dynamic water was Stargate Atlantis when they brought the city to the
surface and that was simply falling and while impressive not that realistic.

I only played that once and barely watched it but the CGIs I caught were of
steaming along in calm water. When there would have been a need for good looking
CGI water it was at night and from a distance. And even in calm water you can
film a real wake and put a CGI ship into it.
