Price reviews Thiering; concludes that with her ideas anything goes;     does not label her bizarre

"It is evident that while Dr. Thiering agrees with the
emerging new consensus that the Scrolls attest a
first-century Sitz-im-Leben, she is unmoved by the
arguments of Norman Golb and others that Qumran
was not a monastery and may have been merely
one of many places the Scrolls were stored on the
eve of the fall of Jerusalem. Indeed, it is a central
requirement of her reconstruction that Qumran be
not only a monastery, but even the center of all
sectarian activity in the time of Jesus, including
that of Jesus himself."

IMHO Price does not do full justice to the
formidable scholarship that Thiering has
deployed.

How long can you keep riding that dead horse,
Carl? Dead horses don't move very fast.

Beating a Dead Horse

She's a dead horse. There's no sense in beating
her into the ground. She's a dead horse. Accept it
and move on. No matter how many times you kick her
in the chest she will not take another breath. And
don't let the twitches fool you. It's just nerves,
it won't last. There's something newer and better
waiting to take her place. But you won't move on.
So as you sit here beating a dead horse we'll be
riding circles around you.

You are as ignorant as they come.  Your approach
to Qumran archaeology is non-existent.

"Carl rides his dead hobbyhorse, of course, of course...."

The above is from a theme song for a television comedy that was in
development, but subsequently canceled when the sponsor, Quaker Oats,
withdrew sponsorship.

Evidently the show's lead had been assumed to be the son of a Quaker
Oats big wig, until Cap'n Crunch, in retirement in Coney Island, felt
compelled to announce to the media, "That joker is no spawn of mine!"

As a historian you don't know your sources in
any depth concerning Qumran because you
treat the real deal that I offer usenet as a joke.

I know you are competent in other historical topics.

There is no archaeological evidence of biblical Israel to
be found any place in Israel. Maybe they are looking in
the wrong place.
