Britta and Pukko: the end of the saga

George Orwell - 22 Oct 2004 00:20 GMT
Its time for a declaration. I wrote "Raiders of the Lost Archive", the story of Britta and Pukko. I am the sole author, despite any claims any other joker might make. I was not in Linkoping in the 1960s (where the hell is Linkoping anyway?). I based the epic on the life story of a person who has revealed her eventful past and her unorthodox theories in numerous newsgroup postings, all accessible on Google. With this copious material I combined some thinly disguised details about Brittas immediate family, information which is easily obtainable by anyone anywhere in the world with a computer and a telephone line and an ability to do research in primary sources. I also invented a few details for the sake of the story it is possible that they coincide with what really happened to someone else, but if so it is pure coincidence.

The story is thus a fake biography of a real person, and since I wanted to write it and post it without revealing my identity (enlisting the kind assistance of people in faraway countries) in order to preserve my academic reputation, I found myself in the position of a forger, which gave fascinating insight. It was particularly interesting to see that the real subject of the story was totally convinced someone else wrote it.

Anyway, after posting three versions, each one longer than the one before, I am not going to revise it again or post any more nonsense. One reason is that I dont want other people jumping on the bandwidth. Another is that I hope the ending prophesied in the story will prove false. I sincerely hope that George W. Bush is not re-elected, even if it spoils the punchline of my story.

You are all welcome to guess who I really am by sending an e-mail to me at R_Supward@hotmail.com. All entrants, right or wrong, will receive a special prize: a pdf file with a beautifully typeset copy of the last ever updated and definitive version of "Raiders of the Lost Archive" (eight pages with some jokes never before seen and with italics, ligatures, runes, Greek and Cyrillic characters and Masonic/Templar symbols which cannot be rendered in text messages).

George which isn't your name,
you have chosen a very bad day for your joke. The female that was murdered
in Linköping the other day together with an eight year old boy, they weren't
related but killed both even then, she was a student at Linköpings Högre
Allmänna Läroverk which was the correct name in 1967/68 for Katedralskolan
where she, I and some others reading this took our exam those years.

Well it is an interesting story, and I am sorry
it was not written with the idea of encouraging
others to amend it or embellish it.

David H,
I told in my answer to 'George Orwell' this isn't fun anymore. Reality have
come close to several of us reading this line after what happened last week
in Linköping. There were fantastic years and part of it can be fun in right
time and place, but not when one of the students that were in one of the
other classes during those days have been murdered. I hope you and other
respect that.

I will address you, Inger. What this
war-torn world needs
is for you to go to Rome and kneel before his
Papal Magnificence (whether Orsini or Di Medici)
and beg his excellency to fund a new
Requiem mass. Something worthy of Grieg and Sibelius.
An opus that will give warmth and hope to all Nord
Europa. May I suggest a title ? How about
"Groenlandia" ?

David H,
what's needed is that you stop using the discussiongroups abusing persons,
me or other.
You know nothing what so ever about me,
never will,
stop you OT lines and grow up - get yourself an education and a social life
of your own!

Then don't address me directly. If you talk about
me to a third party online, I will not address you.
But if you call on me, I feel compelled as a teacher
of munchkins, to guide you in some way. I really have
no need to talk to anyone in this NG, as you wish to
do from here to eternity.
I am here for informasi and inspirasi (humour), not
personal glory and Ingerish ego trip.
Make yourself useful. Borrow Soren's longboat and
catch a fair wind to Rome.
DAVID H  (We need that Requiem for the Greenlandia
and Vinlandia dead bigtime. We northerners
need an opus that will shake Wagner and
         Lizst in their booties.)

I could not guess who the name of the author was but I just sent a
mail and asked nicely for a copy of the story. He sent it to me but he
did not tell me his (or her)name. It is very nice. I don´t know
exactly how much that has changed but the footnotes are new. There´s a
nice one on akribi. It is worth to get.
