Recte: Dr. Condoleezza Rice, the American Secretary of State, would be an excellent next President of the United States -- perhaps the best of all the available candidates on either the Democrat or Republican side. I hope she runs for the office. The United States will be the better for it. D. However, if nearer to the date, it seems obvious that the Republican candidacy is a poison chalice, then you could end up with Ms. Rice doomed to political obscurity irrespective of her merits.Where the economy and/or Iraq is come election time is still uncertain. For a black woman to become president, she will have to be a Republican (at least at present) because those that worry about such things are not likely to switch their allegiance to the Democrats.
