While some aree cheered by the removal (in this case, with extreme
prejudice) of a "senior commander" from any military chain of command,
Spencer, I occasionally take a contrarian view based on my naval experience,
active and especially reserve service.
Bigod, I can begin a list which would quickly lengthen of senior commanders
the loss of whom would have immediately elevated more effective and able
sorts to command. Hell, I once had an XO who had he been thrown overside
during the Mid one dak night, the mood of the crew would have skyrocketed,
while the ship itself might have risen out of the water a couple feet in
elation.
Then there was this COMCARDIV, thankfully passed over for higher command,
whose presence represented a veritable sea anchor on ship's performance.

Oooh, I've met those. "Morale sinks," I believe, and almost invariably
careerist sons of bitches. I'll wager there is an NSN for them.
