I was wondering how I would track down information on a (half)
great-uncle who was a professional musician in Aberdeen in the 1920's?
He was likely a fiddle player, and most likley played his entire life.
His name is/was Alexander "Sandy" Seivewright Cumming and he was born
in 1902. His (half) siblings, mother and stepfather (my
great-grandparents) came to Canada in 1922 and kept in touch with
"Sandy" until around the years of WWII when they lost contact. As far
as I know he didn't die in the war because he's not listed on the
commonwealth war graves webste (which also lists civilians who died).
He was living at 12 Castle street in Aberdeen at the time of his
marriage to Elizabeth Main in 1925. A witness to his marriage, George
Stephen Cook also lived at 12 Castle street. I assume they were
friends.
My family has no idea what happened to "Sandy" after they lost contact
and a professional researcher in Edinburgh, who did a search as a (very
kind) favor failed to find a death registration for "Sandy" or his
wife. She searched up until the present year. I assume that they left
Scotland maybe?
If you have any information at all on him or know where I should start
my search please let me know.
Thanks!

OK,  where to begin...

The Musicians Union would be a start as he'll almost certainly have been a
member and may even have ended up in one of their 'homes for old musos'

Edinburgh City Council have a contacts page for people interested in local
history with a plethora of contact information at:

However I'm afraid that the best way to find someone like this is to go
there and burn some shoe leather going around the various libraries which
hold collections which may have reference to old Sandy.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time,  like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Is he any relation to Sean and Dan Cumming who went to GCI in the early
'70s? Sarah Jane Cumming of Manotick?
