I was pleased to see that even while the Georgians were storming their
parliament building they were waving England flags to support us in
the World Cup.

Then again, I've mislaid my glasses.

Well done to Australia for being such great losers.

I was a little ambivalent about the final until I started reading some of
the hysterical, borderline racist and very bitter rantings in the mainstream
Australian press about the England team and the English in general. I was
proud to see hoe the team rose above it all and showed their superiority -
well done.

Hopefully HM the Q will be warming up a few rewards for them in the new year
honours list. :)

When I was a schoolboy I used to read such boys' papers as Hotspur, Champion,
Rover and Eagle. Sporting stories with fairy-tale endings like the Rugby World
Cup final appeared all the time, but if you wrote a story like that today,
every publisher would laugh at you.

Truly truth is stranger than fiction.
