In Victorian Times lots of cab whistles were in use. Whistling one time
would call a four-wheeler, two times a Hansom.
Later, somewhere after 1905, whistling one time would call a motorcab, two a
four-wheeler and three a Hansom, i believe.

Do you when the cab whistles were abolished? During WWI? And why?

Cheers,
Matthias

Due, I would suspect to air raid wardens using whistles during the first
Zeppelin air raids. And also to search and rescue parties using whistles
to try and locate people and summoning for help.
