Yes, Virginia, Many American Democrats Are Actually Socialists -- although
They Often Try To Deny It.

But the Masks Often Slip...

Howard Dean, the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has flown
off to Europe to meet with Socialists there and plan a Joint Agenda.

Hilarious!

Dean Is Simply Outstanding At Shooting Himself -- And His Political Party --
In The Foot.

"Howard Dean, chairman of the national committee of the U.S. Democratic
Party, is attending the two-day conference together with the leaders of
leftist governments of several countries and party leaders from across
Europe."

European Socialists eager to work with U.S. Democrats

Thu Dec 7, 2006

OPORTO, Portugal (Reuters) - European Socialists promised on Thursday to
work to rebuild Europe's strategic alliance with the United States now that
the Democrats control Congress after last month's elections.

Socialist leaders attending a meeting of the European Socialist Party
pledged that with the Democrats on the rise, strong ties could be renewed
with the United States after years of cool relations with Republican
President George W. Bush.

Howard Dean, chairman of the national committee of the U.S. Democratic
Party, is attending the two-day conference together with the leaders of
leftist governments of several countries and party leaders from across
Europe.

"We are not anti-American, we want the real America, your America," former
Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, president of the European
Socialist Party, said in remarks directed at Dean.

The Democrats gained control of both houses of Congress for the first time
since 1994 in the mid-term elections, reshaping the political landscape
ahead of the 2008 presidential race.

"Europe needs an America that is back on track," said Portuguese Socialist
Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country is hosting the meeting.

"We need, today more than ever, to reinforce and renew the strategic
alliance between the United States and Europe," Socrates said. "We know that
a stronger Democratic Party is key for this to happen."

Socialists, or centre-left governments, currently hold or share power in
just over half of Europe.

Many European governments, not just Socialist ones, have above all been
angered by Bush's war in Iraq and what has been seen as the U.S. failure to
work with allies in international affairs.

They expressed hopes after last month's election for a new era of open
dialogue on a more equal footing with Washington and the Bush administration
during the final two years of his presidency.

Socrates said Dean's Democrats "should know that they can count on European
Socialists" for support.

Virginia, it just doesn't get any better than this.

al-Islam reported that US occupation forces on Tuesday closed the
al-Hadithah Dam, drying up the Euphrates River in a continuing effort to
search for soldiers missing for two days following the shooting down of
a US Chinook helicopter in the area on Monday, 4 December.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying
that the Americans ordered the Dams Department to close completely the
12 gates of the dam, blocking the water behind it but opening the
ath-Tharthar Canal to circumvent the area where the two-rotor American
helicopter crashed.  It was rumored that a high-ranking Marine officer
was among those listed as missing in the crash.

US-Iraqi puppet police patrol in al-Haqlaniyah, near al-Haditha, about
236km northwest of Baghdad, on Tuesday.

The al-Haqlaniyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local
eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance men armed with automatic weapons
and hand grenades attacked the joint patrol near the Grand Mosque in the
middle of al-Haqlaniyah.  Witnesses had no information on the nature or
extent of casualties, since the Americans and their Iraqi puppet police
allies closed off the area immediately after the attack and began
raiding nearby homes.

Hit.

Relentless Resistance attacks drive US forces out of Hit.

In a dispatch posted at 11:39am Makkah time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that the repeated blows being delivered by the Iraqi
Resistance have forced the US occupation forces to withdraw their forces
from the city of Hit, about 165km northwest of Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in Hit as
saying that US forces began their pull out on Tuesday, evacuating one of
their headquarters in the city after it had come under repeated attacks.

Witnesses reported that the US occupation forces pulled vehicles and
equipment out of the Hit railroad station but had not yet completely
evacuated that position.

Sources in the Iraqi puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that  the
Americans do intend to withdraw completely from Hit, handing their
facilities in the city over to the Iraqi puppet army.

on Tuesday.

The al-Habbaniyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported members
of the al-Fallahat tribe in the al-Jaffah area who witnessed the attack
as saying that the shells blasted into the American-occupied base,
setting off explosions that violently shook the four corners of the
facility and sent plumes of smoke billowing up from inside. US

time" following the attack.

there Wednesday evening.

al-Islam reported that US occupation forces had announced that they had
completely sealed off the city of ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad
starting at 6pm local time Wednesday evening and until further notice.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US
troops used loudspeakers to announce the blockade of the city, which
comes as Iraqi puppet troops prepare to deploy on the streets of the
city in their first official deployment in ar-Ramadi.

Four US troops reported killed in Resistance bombing in ar-Ramadi
Wednesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 6pm Makkah time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance fighters assault puppet "Iraqi National Guard" headquarters
in al-Fallujah Wednesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 3:12pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters mounted a violent
attack on the headquarters of puppet "Iraqi National Guards" in eastern
al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad on Wednesday morning.

The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in
the puppet police as saying that Resistance men fired rocket-propelled
grenades at the puppet "National Guard" base on as-Sadd Street in the
Industrial Zone of al-Fallujah on Wednesday morning.

Following the rocket attack, a firefight broke out between Resistance
fighters and the puppet guards in which light and medium weapons were
used.  The battle lasted for about an hour, during which time the main
street in al-Fallujah which was near the scene of the fighting and also
nearby side streets were empty of pedestrians and traffic.  Witnesses
confirmed that the headquarters sustained damage in the attack.

Four US troops reported killed in Resistance car bomb attack in
al-Fallujah on Tuesday.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter

eyewitnesses in the Sa'dan area as saying that a Resistance fighter
drove an explosives-laden Caprice car into a US column, completely
destroying one US Humvee and inflicting heavy damage on a second.  The
explosion killed four US troops and wounded four more of them to varying
degrees, the witnesses said.

Afterwards, the American troops surrounded and sealed off the area and
then hauled away the wreckage and evacuated their dead and wounded.

Resistance battles US troops in downtown al-Fallujah late Tuesday night.

In a dispatch posted at 10:53am Makkah time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that fierce fighting raged between Iraqi Resistance
forces and US occupation troops in the middle of al-Fallujah, 60km west

nighttime curfew was in force at the time, no details on the nature or
extent of casualties were available.  On Wednesday morning, large
numbers of US and Iraqi puppet army troops were deployed in the area.

Baghdad.

Resistance fighter begins operations against US occupation in Baghdad at
dawn Wednesday with car bomb attack south of ad-Durah, leaving five
Marines reported dead.

In a dispatch posted at 8:50pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter plunged his
explosives-packed Passat car into a US military column on the road to
al-Mahmudiyah south of the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah at dawn
on Wednesday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the explosion
destroyed one US vehicle and disabled a second, killing five US Marines
and wounding four more of them.

In other attacks on Wednesday, the Iraqi Resistance fired 15 mortar
rounds into US checkpoints on the road to Saddam International Airport,
into a pro-Iranian Shi ' sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi headquarters, and into
the US base set up in the former Iraqi Chiefs of Staff building in
western Baghdad.

Seven Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded in Baghdad’s al-Karakh District
alone on Wednesday.  The first four targeted US troops.  One of those
bombings, in al-'Amiriyah, destroyed a US military vehicle and killed
one American soldier and wounded three more.  A second Resistance
bombing destroyed a US armored vehicle and left three American troops
dead or wounded.  That attack was claimed by the Ansar as-Sunnah
Resistance organization, which has begun a sharp escalation of its
attacks in Baghdad. Two other bombings left eight puppet "Iraqi Interior
Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)" and puppet army troops dead.

Four Resistance mortar rounds blasted concentrations of the pro-Iranian
Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, killing or wounding 15 of the sectarian
militiamen at about 10am local time Wednesday morning.

Resistance men also assaulted a checkpoint manned by puppet "Iraqi
Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)" in the ash-Shuhada’
neighborhood of the al-Bayya' District, killing four of the puppet
"Shock Troops," including Captain Husayn as-Sadri, known as Husayn
Kalabjah. The mainstream media, as usual, misrepresented that attack,
saying that it targeted four Shi'i civilians, despite the blood that
covered the checkpoint and the cries of the puppet "Shock troops" that
were heard by local witnesses throughout the attack.

A bomb that had been packed in a cooking gas cylinder and planted by the
side of the road in the Janiniyah area of al-Ghazaliyah in western
Baghdad went off by a puppet "Interior Ministry Shock Troop (Maghawir)"
patrol, killing five of the puppet "Shock Troops" and wounding three
more of them.

The US-installed Iraqi puppet regime claimed that its forces had
disarmed a car bomb that was intended to kill innocent civilians in the
predominantly Shi'i al-Kazimiyah district of Baghdad.  Eyewitnesses,
however, and medical sources confirmed that a car bomb had actually
exploded near a detachment of pro-Iranian Shi'i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi
gunmen the as-Sakalat area where lumber and construction supplies are
sold.  The blast killed or wounded 11 of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen.

The Resistance fired seven mortar rounds into the area of al-Maydan
Square in Baghdad’s ar-Rusafa district, the scene of a sectarian
murder several days ago in which Shi'i sectarian gunmen killed three
Sunni college students on their way home from class.

The mortar attack killed or wounded 54 people in the square, all of them
men, despite claims by the puppet regime and the western media that
women and children had been targeted. The correspondent for Mafkarat
al-Islam pointed out that the square where the attack took place is a
market for used car parts and is not visited by women or children.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by puppet "Order Protection" police
opposite the as-Sajj restaurant in the Baghdad district of az-Zuyunah at
9am local time Wednesday morning, killing a first lieutenant in the
puppet army and wounding eight more puppet troops.

Five bodies of pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen were found executed
in the al-'Amiriyah district of western Baghdad.  A sixth Jaysh al-Mahdi
gunman was found dead in al-Ghazaliyah.

The al-Yarmuk Hospital announced that it had received nine bodies of
Shi'i sectarian militiamen that had been found in the al-Qantarah area,
the district located between ad-Durah in southern Baghdad and Hur Rajab.

Arrests hit a high mark in Baghdad.  In addition to 51 youths rounded up
in al-Yarmuk (see story below) another eight were arrested in the
al-Jami'ah (University) area.

Fierce fighting was heard in al-'Amiriyah when Resistance men assaulted
a puppet "Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troop (Maghawir)" checkpoint
under the al-Jihad neighborhood bridge.  Three puppet "Shock Troops"
were reported killed and one wounded in the clash.

The puppet "Health Ministry," which is run by the pro-Iranian Jaysh
al-Mahdi announced that in all of Baghdad 122 people were killed in
various activities during the day.

Resistance attacks were continuing even at the time of reporting,
despite the nighttime curfew that was in force.

The Shi'i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia is run by Muqtada as-Sadr, a
Shi'i cleric loyal to Iran, which is seeking to extend its regional
hegemony and step into the shoes of the American occupation in Iraq.

Bomb rips through bus in Madinat as-Sadr midday Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 2:28pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that at midday Wednesday, an Iraqi Resistance bomb
exploded inside a bus carrying employees of the puppet regime’s court
system in the Madinat Saddam district of eastern Baghdad – a district
dubbed "Madinat as-Sadr" after the American occupation which is now a
stronghold for the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet security
service source as claiming that the bomb had been placed in a bag and
that it exploded aboard a large passenger bus near the al-Kayyarah
popular market in "Madinat as-Sadr." The source said that the blast
killed "several" people and injured eight who were taken to hospital for
treatment.

In a dispatch posted at 8:50pm Makkah time Wednesday night, the
correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that contrary to mainstream
media claims that the bus had been targeted by a martyrdom attacker, the
explosion had actually come from a 15kg bomb that had been placed in a
parcel and left on the bus.  The bus itself was transporting employees
of the puppet "Major Crimes Court," the correspondent wrote, 15 of whom
died in the blast.

US forces storm homes in Baghdad’s al-Yarmuk district Tuesday night,
arresting 51 local youths.

puppet army allies arrested 51 youths in the western Baghdad district of
al-Yarmuk on Tuesday night.

occupation forces raided homes behind the Ibn Taymiyah Mosque and in the
Duwar an-Naft and ad-Dakhiliyah districts of al-Yarmuk.  The Americans
used percussion explosives to blow open the doors of nine of the houses

southern Baghdad on Tuesday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the
as-Sayyidiyah area of southern Baghdad as saying that a bomb that had
been planted by the side of the road near the Shakir 'Abbud Mosque went
off by an unmarked car carrying a group of Badr Brigade gunmen.  The
witnesses said that the explosion completely destroyed the car, killing
all four Badr Brigade militiamen aboard.

Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)" in western Baghdad on Wednesday
morning.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in
the al-Jihad neighborhood as saying that the mortar shells scored direct
hits on the facility, sending plumes of smoke rising into the sky.

Samarra’, about 120km north of Baghdad, killing one of them and
wounding others in their continuing efforts to seize their land.

Samarra’ hospital as saying that the US airplane attacked farmers in a
wheat field in the al-'Abbasiyah area north of the city on Wednesday
morning.  One farmer was killed and three more – one of them a woman –
were wounded. The medical sources said that the American attacks were an
attempt to force the farmers off their land so that their fields could
be turned over to the puppet "Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops
(Maghawir)" to build a camp there.

Bayji.

Resistance forces united under umbrella command around as-Siniyah,
knocking out six US military vehicles and nine Iraqi puppet army
vehicles in hard fighting on Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:18pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that contrary to what the puppet Iraqi Regime and the
western media were claiming US and Iraqi puppet army forces have not
driven the Resistance out of as-Siniyah.  In fact large parts of the
area are under Iraqi Resistance control.

The as-Siniyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the
Resistance still maintains high fighting ability and is carrying out
ambushes and mobile operations striking the US and puppet regime forces
effectively.

The correspondent reported that supplies had come in to the Iraqi
Resistance fighters in as-Siniyah from all over Salah ad-Din Province.
The Resistance organizations there have united under a unified umbrella,
fighting together against US occupation troops, puppet regime forces,
and the pro-American Kurdish separatist Peshmergah militia.

On Wednesday, the Resistance burned and disabled six various US military
vehicles and nine vehicles belonging to the Iraqi puppet army.

The correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam have published photographs that

in response to the attack, the US troops simply opened fire from behind

We do not have to die if we try to defend ourselves religiously,
as the indivisible man...

How about, RETURNING all stolen monies as a first step, along with
arresting to have executed enemy bushite rapists and torturers.

Look, these neocon zionists KNOW they are OUR enemies. They want to
divide the People, so we won't complain about dying for their contempt
for freed om by Justice. Bush used zero evidence to implicate Laden,
while immediately wor ked to close outstanding criminal investigations.
What is it my friend that YOU can't figure?

We need real free world leadership that requires US to be smart enough
to recogn ize we. Check out Johnny Wizard man.

"Al-Qaida" = "General Mahmoud Ahmad" = "bush's ungodly partners in
crime"

American soldiers are being terribly mislead by the Bush
administration to undermine freedom for Americans, by
suggesting an effective war strategy is to ignore all the 911
evidence, and go off instead to blindly blame bad Afghans or
badder Iraqis, as an insult to all honorable police services.

Again, it's the most wicked evil I've ever heard of. "These
kind of situations are completely untrue." And yet, no they're
not. They just say that, and expect YOU to fall into doubt.

"Dead" is about as far as I'm willing to concede vis-

wishes to dip it in some Chinese mustard to lubricate
things a bit, I've no objection.

The Deirdre crowd do seem to enjoy some pretty odd practices, don't
they? All that black leather, bulging chests and thighs; prawns being
rammed up people's nostrils with naral intent - I don't know if I'll
survive the evening, but by God, I don't plan to miss it! So many
decisions - such as, do I wear chains or arrive lightly handcuffed?

You're a literary sort of chap - when nilita is inserting the prawn
into my nose, is she the deflowerer or the deflorist? I've never been
able to decide who's who in these perverse extravaganzas... I must say
Deirdre has an ingenious turn of mind; I'm hoping I can persuade her
to stay over for New Year...

I wonder if the restaurant management will book us for a month's run -
the only other offer I've had is playing Santa Claus to pathetically
weeping groups of tiny Chinese children, who tend to lose control of
their bladders once esconced on Santa's knee, while their mothers
haggle for a substantial discount on Santa's already pitiful wages in
the true spirit of a Chinese Christmas.

The fact that Santa's breath reveals that Santa has had a lot of
medicine last night does not help enhance the feelings of love for
all, apart from the prettier Chinese Mums, of course, who crinkle
their eyes when smiling at Santa, causing instantaneous arrhythmia and
desperate gropings around for Santa's hipflask and a surreptitious
swig of medicine to still Santa's beating heart....

If all else fails, I can usually divert the crowd by lighting my
breath and blowing fiery smoke rings at the security men, who watch
Santa closely for any signs of child molestation in progress - it's a
harsh, untrusting world when you're Santa... I get particularly
offended when every second child asks if I'm going to have a baby...

Oh, I don't know! With all this advice and caring going on around me,
I should be a better, kindlier Highlander by Hogmanay, assuming I
survive "Nosh with Nilita Nite".

<alliteration - the hallmark of a literary scoundrel...>

Quick Question, should I wear my kilt?

Quick Answer, not until I lose a few more pounds so I don't have to
strap it on with duct tape.

That takes care of that! I shall probably arrive in a little number by

You must be joking! The truss - in Gaelic, Jockstrap - is essential to
that full florid look which characterizes the healthy Highlander.

The best Chinese beer is Tsingtao, from the Green Island Brewery south
of Shanghai, a former German brewery from the days of the western
powers carving up the Chinese ports and still operating successfully
under Chinese management. It's an excellent pilsner beer.

Tsing Tao means Green Island, but the old China hands used to swear
that it was an acronym for "This sh.t Is No Good To Any One."  Makes
the name easy to remember.

After I moved to Canada, a Scottish friend who was master of a Chinese
freighter out of Shanghai (the Chinese had a major shortage of
captains in those days, so Europeans got the jobs and they paid very
well indeed) used to bring me two cases from Shanghai every month when
picking up Canadian grain, along with a case of a pretty nasty Chinese
champagne called Daxiang or a similar name.

Now Tsing Tao is sold in Canada and is quite popular, although not as
good as the original Czech Pilsner, Urquell, while in today's Shanghai
everyone drinks Veuve Cliquot, my favourite of all the French
champagnes when I can afford it.

Don't forget to wear your leather outfit and bring a whip with you -
I'm quite partial to a riding crop, properly applied, accompanied by a
raised, angry voice shouting "You've been a VERY naughty boy!"

It will be a mind-boggling dining experience for the local Chinese.

I suspect Spencer will want photos of this definitive disciplinary
action, so some snappy action with a digital camera would not go
amiss...

If you need any tips, Deirdre is an expert horsewoman and handles a
whip like an Olympic Gold medalist taking the final hurdle - a
veritable thrashing machine, as you may have noticed from her
reproving posts, while Renia's THWACK! THWACK! THWACK! post has
already reduced most of SCS to twittering fear and in some cases,
hopeful bum-baring; an old Scottish custom as per Braveheart's men
mooning the *nglish... ("They lyke the leathere for to kepe thaim
heated for battelle" - Edward I of England, Hammer of the Scots).

It's a senior citizen thingie. One gets accustomed to running one's
own affairs without the help of well-meaning nannies wittering and
snapping at one's ankles while bossing one around...

I'm only following your splendid example - I haven't noticed you
saying demurely, "Yes Spencer - anything Spencer says, Spencer..."

Perhaps if you didn't make everyone privy to every
aspect of your affairs you'd find there'd be fewer
people examining and commenting on them.

Nor have you noticed me continually alluding to an aris-
tocratic upbringing whilst demonstrating absolutely no
sign of it.

I'm madly taking notes here as to how to handle Mr. H. at Dim Sum.

I'm gonna have to teach Mr. Highlander some class!  And, Mr. H., "class"
isn't something you are born into - it's a state of mind, a way of being and
behaving!  First things first, you're gonna have to put Hines and Tiglath in
your killfile because some of their nastiness is rubbing off on you.  And
they are the paragons of low class.  In fact, if there was no such thing as
low class, they'd have no class at all!

Secondly, pay attention and show respect to the good gentlewomen - Renia,
Deirdre, and Sheila (who is currently on sabbatical doing Christmas baking
and such no doubt).  They truly are on your side, Mr. H.  They are
encouraging you to shine!   They are neither the Witches of Eastwick nor
Stepford Wives.  They are freethinking courageous women who are not
intimidated by men - Scots or otherwise!   You have to show them that
although you are a rebel, you are also a classy gentleman who is not at all
intimidated by but rather an afficionado of smart assertive women!

Grrrrrls, I don't know if I can effect a Highlander transformation in one
evening, but I'm gonna do my damnedest!

either a wee dram or a large club.

Various, snipped....

A note about Midway.  Currently (and for a number of years) the airfield on
Eastern Is. has been closed/deactivated, and the one on Sand Is. reduced to
a single runway, 6/24, quaoted as 7900', asphalt, "chump change" in the
vernacular of airfields.  Asphalt in that sort of climate crumbles quickly
unless regularly sealed and  gives may to sand, so I suspect that other than
the "path" of the abandoned runways, the frigate birds have taken over.
Midway is avery poor atoll for shipping to shelter, and aside from the
occasional MSTS ship visit and occasional logistics flights, it's a lonely
place.

The airfield is open to civilian traffic, and one presumbaly can charter an
a/c in Honolulu to see the wildlife, requiring only a notification to the
local Pacific Island Protectorate office and the Fish & Wildlife folks.
