Hill and the Marxists said that the rise of the gentry and their desire for
political power equal to their economic power was a major cause of the
English Civil Wars.
The other lot said it was because of the failing economic position of the
gentry and their desire to hang onto political power but without the
commensurate economic muscle.
The idea that the gentry was a failing group economically in mid seventeenth
century England is obviously a ridiculous idea. The idea that a group of
reactionary historians could say so and not get laughed at for almost ten
years is more indicative of politics within Peterhouse than anything much
else.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Was Peterhouse a powerhouse for the British Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy?

It's a Cambridge college noted for it's rather right of centre views as
opposed to the rest of Cambridge that tends to be left of centre.
British universities don't do 'vast conspiracies', that's more for your
side of the pond.
Academic who get involved with contemporary politics are looked down on and
mocked rather than treated with respect.
