Hi group,
This is taken from a quiz at work and it's got me foxed.
What English edifice built in the 19th century has 375000 light bulbs?
Anyone shed any light?

My first thought was the Blackpool Tower, but their web site claims they
only use 10,000 lamps. To give an idea of scale, 375,000 is enough lamps for
more than two miles of the Blackpool Illuminations. Whatever it is is either
big, or uses very small lamps.

It's obviously the former jute mill in Ponders End taken over by Ediswan in
1886 and converted to mass manufacture light bulbs, though I cannot
guarantee whether they had 375000 there at one time, they certainly made
more than that! ;-)

Clearly you don't visit the Lancashire coast in the Autumn or at Christmas!

The numbers are wrong for that. Blackpool tower only uses 10,000, but the
entire six miles, which doesn't really qualify as an edifice, uses around
one million.

I can't imagine the answer being anything different. So either the question
is misguided or the whole iluminations counts as an edifice...

You're more likely to get a lapdance than a stick of rock nowadays in
Blackpool.

No need! Blackpool rock is sold all over - even if it happens to have
BRIGHTON or whatever written through it. ;-)

Did they ever light the Crystal Palace sometime after 1879 and before 1936?
