the yacht America defeated the cream of the english racing fleet in a race
around the isle of wight.

Queen Victoria on being informed America was leading asked "who is second?"
whereupon she recieved the famouse reply "Ma'am there is no second"
.
so decisive was the win that the trophy was named 'The America's Cup'

Did England have a racing fleet?

I always got the impression that The Americas Cup was a competition between
obscenely rich men who competed between each other to see build the fastest
yacht that money could buy.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time,  like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
