Human race will 'split into two different species'

By NIALL FIRTH

26 October 2007
The Daily Mail

The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive,
intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like
creatures, according to a top scientist.

100,000 years into the future, sexual selection could mean that two distinct
breeds of human will have developed.

The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from
the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have
reached its physical peak by the year 3000.

The report claims that after they reach their peak around the year 3000
humans will begin to regress.

These humans will be between 6ft and 7ft tall and they will live up to 120
years.

"Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and
fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates,"
says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other
body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance.

Men will have symmetrical facial features, deeper voices and bigger penises,
according to Curry in a report commissioned for men's satellite TV channel
Bravo.

Women will all have glossy hair, smooth hairless skin, large eyes and pert
breasts, according to Curry.

Hmmmmmm...  Yes, pertness is indeed important. -- DSH

Racial differences will be a thing of the past as interbreeding produces a
single coffee-coloured skin tone.

The future for our descendants isn't all long life, perfect bodies and
chiselled features, however.

While humans will reach their peak in 1000 years' time, 10,000 years later
our reliance on technology will have begun to dramatically change our
appearance.

Medicine will weaken our immune system and we will begin to appear more
child-like.

Dr Curry said: "The report suggests that the future of man will be a story
of the good, the bad and the ugly.

So Sergio Leone WAS RIGHT! -- DSH

"While science and technology have the potential to create an ideal habitat
for humanity over the next millennium, there is the possibility of a
monumental genetic hangover over the subsequent millennia due to an
over-reliance on technology reducing our natural capacity to resist disease,
or our evolved ability to get along with each other.

"After that, things could get ugly, with the possible emergence of genetic
'haves' and 'have-nots'."

Dr Curry's theory may strike a chord with readers who have read H G Wells'
classic novel The Time Machine, in particular his descriptions of the Eloi
and the Morlock races.

In the 1895 book, the human race has evolved into two distinct species, the
highly intelligent and wealthy Eloi and the frightening, animalistic Morlock
who are destined to work underground to keep the Eloi happy.

You're quite safe there Spency, this applies to the human race, it
doesn't concern you.

It would only be alarming if I was going to change into a wee ugly goblin
tomorrow. What happens in 100,000 years time matters not.

DSH need not worry - he's already a wee ugly goblin.

Lucky we're not all on webcams or the truth would be out for everyone!

The miracles of modern plastic surgery may be able to something for his
visio and corpus.  His heart and soul, I'm afraid, are irretrievably
scarred.

I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time". So I ordered
French Toast during the Renaissance.

It's the "The Time Machine" coming true! It's the Eloi and the
Morlocks!

Yes, that's already been pointed out. You have to wonder what sort of
'political theory' this clown teaches, if that is where he gets his ideas
from.

OFCS Oliver Curry is a political scientist

Oliver Curry

In recent years, evolutionary theorists have begun to chart the
psychological mechanisms responsible for moral thought and behaviour.
Kin selection explains family values and the prohibition against incest;
mutualism explains sympathy, friendship and convention; reciprocal
altruism explains trust, gratitude, guilt and punishment. And conflict
resolution explains fairness, virtue, and property rights. I am
currently working to deepen and extend this evolutionary account of
morality by turning some of the predictions that evolutionary theory
makes about human moral and political psychology into tractable
experiments, and putting them to the test. This includes work on the
evolution of patience, on attitudes to abortion, and on moral
decision-making in psychopaths. (For more information, see the website
of the Evolutionary Moral Psychology Group: www.empg.org.)

Huh?

We have a co-op program in London but are not responsible for
the faculty.

Besides, there's no telling what a political scientist will say.
None of them ever get much right.

Maybe, maybe not.  It's an odd setup - "NYU in London" is clearly part of
NYU, but they only appoint as faculty people who already have posts at other
universities and colleges in London.  Which kinda blurs the responsibility
:-)

Especially when they stray into Evolutionary Moral Psychology (whatever
*that* might be!)

Oooh!  Oooh!  It's an interesting (to me) discipline as taught by someone
whose works I admire, Prof. Jon Haidt, of the U. of Virginia.  But,
ssssshhhhh ... don't tell vKince I brought that man's name up again ...%)

Well, you could go over to talk.origins and ask.

As for the rest, NYU has a fair number of overseas programs
of various sorts.  I think that we are in London, Paris,
Prague, Italy, Israel, China, and Singapore, with more to
come, including Abu Dahbi and somewhere in South America.
Many of these operate out of existing schools.  We basically
rent space, offer a curriculum, and hire local scholars.
The Abu Dahbi operation will be quite different in that an
entire university campus will soon be built there.  It will
be much more of a second campus than simply a program.

       Any relation to Dr. Mengele?

This is reminscent of another classic book, 1984.
