British Elevator companies

Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum and feel free to direct me
elsewhere more appropriate.

I am writing a series of observations on the lyrics of an Argentine tango of
the 1920s and as one line speaks of an apartment on the second floor with an
elevator (lift) I started researching elevator companies which so far have
led me specifically to Otis Elevator Company.  This firm opened a branch in
Argentina and started installing elevators in Buenos Aires as of 1895.  Not
to make life easy, I have recently been made aware that in the 20s and 30s
British companies held great sway in the Argentinian market and so naturally
the question arose: Was there a British elevator company with an office in
Argentina and installing elevators in Buenos Aires in the 20s?  I cannot
research because I have no idea what British elevator companies existed at
the time that could have conceivably opened a branch in Buenos Aires.  Any
help or direction is appreciated in advance.

Have you also asked in an Argentine or Buenos Aires group? The
residents and Argentine history buffs may have more direct knowledge
of who was doing business in elevators back then.

Oddly enough, also in Ottawa

Small world.  Yes I have and it was a friend in Argentina who mentioned in
passing that British companies were doing big business in Argentina right
after the turn of that century.  Unfortunately it is hard to research when
one does not know the buzz words.  I am also talking about a very small and
relatively-secluded street in B. Aires that was torn up and replaced by a
large 6-lane avenue in the 30s and 40s.

Try to find copies of the Anglo-American Handbook for the period you
are interested in. It was (not sure if it is still published) a sort
of Baedeckers for Brits in South America and had a pretty large
section on Argentina, BA and the social and economic life there.
