I see that a current poll in Russia for "the greatest Russian of all
time" is presently tying Nicholas II with Stalin!

What! Whatever happened to Peter the Great?

However, a similar US poll apparently produced Reagan, so ......

At least we Brits stayed safe with Winnie.

Yet so many of you Brits have a visceral hatred for Sir Winston, or at best
grudging tolerance.

You've made it fashionable and posh to mock him on non-essentials.

You do the same with Maggie.

You stupid sod.
If you ever learned how to read, you'd see that my previous posts are
very much in admiration of Winnie, warts and all. One of the UK's
greatest.
I was even at his funeral, for Gawd's sake.
It's just that normal people also recognise the warts, and don't go
100% pro or con, which seems to be all you can manage.

You do the same with Maggie, as we see so often with Brit pogues on these
newsgroups.

Rather than hold up your Greatest National Heroes as role models you try to
debunk them and castigate them for all sorts of silly and trivial reasons.

You've done the same thing with Wellington, Drake, Nelson, Henry II, Henry
V, Elizabeth I, Palmerston, Chinese Gordon, Victoria and Mountbatten.

While at the same time you idolize your rock stars and "Princess Diana"...

No Wonder You Are A Nation & A People In Decline -- Jaded, Cynical,
Small-Minded & Perverse.

Any country that makes a National Icon out of someone as distasteful and
perverse as Elton John has SERIOUS problems.

Hell, even Renia Simmonds recognized several years ago that the rot had
firmly set in in Britain and became an expatriatrix, moving to Greece with
her "hubbie".

wiinie looked bulldoggy and he could turn a phrase whether speaking or
writing
but anytime he personally got involved in the planning the result was
usually a disaster.

Or Ivan the Terrible.

Oh geez. I'm surprised it wasn't Clint Eastwood...

Pat Buchanan's going after him as a warmonger. Which isn't
that far from the truth.... expect a flurry of books questioning
the necessity of WWI and WWII, or at least US involvement
there...
