"Public Enemy" with Johnny Depp is an awfully good genre
film and the best in general release since STAR TREK came
out 2 months ago.  Depp's love interest is Marilyn Cotillard
who charmed us 2 years ago as Edith Piaf.  I can imagine
Depp probably met her in France.

"Public Enemy" is a reprise of the Great Depression  class
struggle when bank robbers were briefly seen as folk heroes.

Timothy McVeigh was seen as such in some quarters.

He died too soon to avenge we poor suffering fleeced
abstemious depositors.  A large Ammonium Nitrate bomb driven
to the walls of the federal reserve bldg would have created
that large jolt to put the fear of Jesus into the likes of
that mummified Alan Greenspan and his birth-maggot Bernanke.

Yea we are in need of those brave souls who recognize
thieves, incompetents, kicked-upstairs fogeys, touts and the
like, even though they hold down degrees from the Ivy League
ghettos.

As it is, the Morlocks continue gnawing on the poor (lately
poorer) Eloi, slavery in the form of debt continues,
denizens of this NG ignore the whole problem, and that
stupid (which is forever) GW Bush and his cock-socket Tony
Blair have escaped scot free!

You Yanks sure get the government you deserve!

There are no crèches inside the federal reserve bldg; and:

how does one influence the course of corrupt politics?

1/ Become a politician.
2/ Become rich and exert influence.
3/ Get a gun and shoot the bad guy.

No3 has been used often to rid the world of sundry
megalomaniacs. though all too rarely.

I'm sure that Mr McVeigh  (who served his country in war)
was unaware of children in the vicinity.

Nero & Caligula, though I admit the right person is not
often chosen.  Archduke Ferdinand & Czar Alexander II were
bad mistakes.

I'm convinced he did.

I mean,  would such a man kill indiscriminately?  He was, as you say, a
soldier.

Such a man would know his target intimately.

He did exactly what he intended to do.

Ray,

It's a small point that William Black did not want to bother you with,
but I think "crèche" means  "childcare facility"  or even a nest of
eggs in the U.K.  It's a Brit thing to use words of French origin
more often than Americans.

I just saw it and I thought it was great too!  Johnny Depp is perfect
for that role.

Today the bankers *are* the robbers!

Bully for you, Dennis !  Peter Jason's reaction to the Neocons is
just...
well...too anarchistic and vigilantist...just what one can expect from
the
Outback and Roo country.

He neglects to mention that Gordon Brown FIRED those bankers who
were responsible for investing in phony securities.  This is something
US
Dems did not do...I suppose because the Dems  want to show
"solidarity"
with Wall Street Repubs.

???  The Wiki picture looks just like Johnny Depp, in fact I wonder
whether someone hasn't vandalized the article.

Warren Oates and Jack Elam are two genre players who will be sorely
missed !  I have seen the original "Dillinger" at thrift stores in VHS
format.
Oates and Elam did not live long enough to become "unfamous" like
David
Carradine.

both had long careers in which they both made better movies than Carradine,

Oates and Ben Johnson were the Gorch brothers in The Wild Bunch, the
greatest western ever.

Ben Jognson is the only Oscar winner who is also in the Rodeo HoF.
his stunt riding in Waynes Ft Apache trilogyis spectacular.
Yeah, Oates, Johnson ,Elam, all great actors.among my favorites.

I haven't seen it yet,  but I'm curious...  Does it show his arrest in
Tucson?  My grandfather was the TP Officer that walked up, stuck his
gun in JD's ribs (determining if he had his bullet-proof vest on) and
arrested him - James Charles Herron.  Just curious.

Wow!  How remarkable to have something like that in the family!
Congratulations!

Yes, it shows the arrest in Tucson, though I don't remember the
details.

I have several books, articles, and police archives that document the
facts.  My Step-mom was also a TPD Detective and she gathered a lot of
material for me.  James C. Herron (Grandpa) was awarded one of JD's
guns, and the handcuffs used to arrest him at his retirement.  I never
saw any of this as my dad bailed early on and we never had further
contact.  It's just family history, I never met my Grandfather - he
died early.  But it piques my interest from time to time.

remember these movies are "based on a true story".
they take liberties but get the story accross.
