Iraqis Didn't Invite U.S. Troops
The Nov. 22 editorial "War's Unpleasant Truths" is self-righteous and
sanctimonious with a taint of racism. It confirms the suspicions of
many that the Fourth Estate in the United States has become a shill
for the imperial ambitions of the Bush administration, and validates
the conclusion that America's corporate media serves the interests of
its masters in Washington, D.C.
The Courant asserts American immaculateness stating, there can be "no
moral equivalence" between Iraqi "insurrectionists" who behead
civilian hostages and U.S. Marines who kill wounded Iraqis "in the
heat of battle," notwithstanding several reports of American soldiers
expressing utter disdain for Arabs. Indiscriminate U.S. bombing has
claimed hundreds of innocent Iraqi lives. Yet not one U.S. official
has been prosecuted for hate crimes or wanton killing.
Foreigners in Iraq are not there by invitation of the Iraqi people.
The U.S. invasion of Iraq was illegal. Iraq's interim government is a
puppet of the United States and cannot exist without U.S protection.
The Bush administration has openly flouted accepted international law
and humanitarian protections in its war on Iraq.
It has been estimated by credible sources that as many as 100,000
Iraqis have died since the invasion. The Iraqi countryside is littered
with depleted uranium from American weapons that will remain a deadly
hazard for decades.
By any measure, the suffering of the Iraqi people is tremendously
greater than that of the American invaders. The entire blame for this
appalling and needless catastrophe must be solely directed at the Bush
administration.

Yes, the mainstream media suppoted the adminstrations public relations
campaign wholeheartedly. Criticism or serious examination of the
campaign before and during was scant, in the mainstream media. Yet
some still allege "liberal media bias." That is, in summary, an
absurd and baseless argument, especially if one considers the media's
support of the Iraqi campaign.
