THANK YOU AMERICA FOR YOUR CRASS PRESIDENT

Joseph H - 26 Aug 2004 22:16 GMT Don't get me wrong, I love America.
I love your movies, I love your heroes, I love your music, I love jazz, I love your cities, I love your vigour and your honesty...
I don't love your chocolate. A little bland - like as if it melted and then got hard again. Come to Europe and have a real bite!
Your President, however...where did you get him?
They say over here he's not clever. I don't agree with that. I reckon he must be quite a capable guy to get where he got. I'd say he's quite personable too.So maybe an allround alright sort of guy. I'm trying to be nice before I really shaft the guy.
And I actually agree with him about Irag and Turkey. I want democracy in that part of the world too. Turkey is a good bridge to the Middle East. Saddam should have been shifted a long time ago.
I don't agree with him about Israel. It is absurd that one nation should be permitted to inflict ongoing injustice on another. It is absurd that the policies of this one nation should treaten the stability of the entire region - and indeed of the entire world. America must wake up and see this. Maybe Clinton did, maybe he tried hardfer than most.
But..our friend! He is so crass. He has no vision of a human future. Oh, I know he has something you call "family values" - and indeed I have family values myself. But too often such beliefs sit like clingfilm over the mind, protecting it from infection from anything as threatening as a thought.
Your President, the most powerful man in the world by a mile, has no sense of the world. He has no sense of history. He has no care for ecology. He has no care for dignity. He has no care for justice. He has no care for ordinary human beings living a decent life. He is insulated from all these concerns. It is - frankly - terrifying that such a great nation could produce such a crass leader. America is a great nation. Americans should begin to see that they have a duty - to themselves, first, but ultimately to all humankind - to produce leaders who are capable of rising to the challemges of our age.
A particular response to some of these challenges is outlined in my web-site www.humanisation.org, You might like to have a look at same.
Thank you, America.

Even IF I were to grant you your theory that a) the "asprin factory" was just that and not an appropriate military target, and b) the people at the embassy died directly because of Clinton's mistakes, then you would still have to prove they died because of Clinton's lies and tell me how that even comes close to 1,000 dead Americans. Do you realize since 9/11 George W. Bush has more American blood on his hands than Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden?

How about standing in front of Congress, the UN and in front of the American people and a) ranting about how Saddam Hussein has WMD's (which was false), and b) how Saddam Hussein was linked to 9/11 and Al Qaeda (which was also false). "There's no question that Saddam Hussein had al-Qaeda ties."
"We know that Iraq and al Qaeda have had high-level contacts that go back a decade."
"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
"We'll find them. It'll be a matter of time to do so."
"I'm not surprised if we begin to uncover the weapons program of Saddam Hussein -- because he had a weapons program."
- all above quotes from Bush.
Here's a good one from Wolfowitz:
"For bureaucratic reasons, we settled on one issue, weapons of mass destruction (as justification for invading Iraq) because it was the one reason everyone could agree on."

> > ""I'm George W. Bush and I approved this mess"" > > > [quoted text clipped - 103 lines] > destruction (as justification for invading Iraq) because it was the one > reason everyone could agree on." So, Bush relaying intelligence information, given to him by his advisors, to the public is somehow "lying"? And if "everyone" could agree on the WMD approach, then doesn't that lend _credibility_ rather than detract from the facts? I guess it all depends on what your definition of "is" is.
kickbushout@NOSPAMhotmail.com - 30 Aug 2004 03:17 GMT > ""I'm George W. I guess it all depends on what your definition of "is" is. The information he said was untrue, therefore its a lie. As for the Wolfowitz quote, my issue with it is that a) he makes it sound like the WMD argument was chosen to make the paperwork easy, and b) now that the WMD argument is gone, I guess that means the administration is divided over whether or not the war was justified.

Lamarr Edwards - 27 Aug 2004 19:50 GMT Joseph H. - Thank you for a civil post, making some interesting points.
I think you probably represent the majority European view.
However, there are more views than the European view, and I think you make the mistake of believing if someone disagree's with you, they are crass.
Put another way, you believe that Europe has figured out the best way to deal with issues, and anyone who sees it differently is wrong.
Obviously, Europe does not have the answers, they think they do, and wants America to conform.
America is for Americans first, our interests and security first, and Europe, and everyone elses is secondary.
Bush represents the America that doesn't believe in a welfare state, but rather, believes in equal opportunity to succeed.
He represents the America who believes that appeasement with enemies is a futile and dangerous exercise, enemies must be confronted, and defeated if required. He represents the America of General Patton on this, " lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way", Europe can't lead, won't follow, and therefore as far as many of we Americans are concerned, should get the hell out of the way. Iran may be less than a year from nukes, Korea is there, Europe has done little to stop either, and the resultant hell scenario seems to be ungraspable by its leaders. WE will do what WE must do, if not for Europe, for America.
You do not understand the Israel situation. We did not create Israel, the world did, through the UN, and the Arab states moved immediately to defeat it.
In 1967, the Arab states were mobilized and planning another attack, and tiny Israel, defeated them again, and took territory as a buffer between itself, and all the Arab states vowing its destruction. They struck again in 1973, and only massive aid from the US kept Israel from being pushed into the sea.
Why don't the European powers gurantee the total and complete security of Israel if it pulls out of occupied territory ???
Wy doesn't Europe agree to stop, at all costs the islamic crazies who butcher Israel'is ?
Where is Europe on this, you helped create the mess with your colonialism and ties to arab states, why don't YOU solve it ?
When you speak of "ecology", you really mean kyoto.
The kyoto treaty reminds me of the preservationists here who want the forests untouched, including undergrowth and dead trees. When the forests burn down, taking homes and people with them, they just shrug.
They are always p;repared to sacrifice someone else, to their lust to keep the government from trimming and clearing the forests.
Kyoto benefits everyone, but the US, our economy would be most hurt, because our infrastructure is older than Europe's, because we spent billions to defend Europe, and you were free to build new infrastructure, instead of providing for your defense. The new, up and coming new polluters, China, and India, are exempt.
So why should we take the economic hit, when no one else is prepared to do it, and the treaty was designed specifically in a fashion to damage our economy, or to make us a scapegoat..........., BTW, the entire US senate voted NOT to ratify the treaty, but you find it easier to pin it on Bush, than recognize that the country is not interested in it.
Many Americans view Europe as decadent, defeatist, and fearful, always willing to compromise, compromise, accepting another 21'st century czechoslovakia or poland, hoping that the ugliness will pass you by, rather than stiffen your spines and face it. Bush represents those Americans, and we will stand, with or without you.
Bush is straight forward, sticks to his guns, and does what he believes is right, when I disagree with him, I still respect his stand, because I am sick to death of unprincipled, wishy washy, leaders in both Europe and America.
Finally, you folk are going to have to realize that we don't exist to be the benevolent uncle of Europe. You are going to have to realize that we have our own needs and interests, and many of us don't give a rats a.s about your views on who we elect to lead our nation.
The internet is full of Europeans bellyaching about our leadership choice.
Beyond Britain, and France ( whom we don't think much of) most Americans don't know, and don't care who you have selected as leaders, and regardless of whom you choose, we believe it is your business, not ours.
We give more in foreign aid, AIDS research and funding to Africa, and supply more food to hunger programs by far, than any other nation.
Because of Bush's initiative, we give more to Africa for AIDS treatment, than the rest of the world, combined, so I think your assertion that Bush "doesn't care" is piffle.
Europe, in many, many ways, is our "old country", Americans of European ancestry are still in the majority, and we have deep respect for Europe, what it was, and what it is.
However, many of us are not blinded by the reality of today's world, and we are not an international democracy, where those of other country's claim some kind of privelige in helping us select our leaders. LE

If someone enters your house with a gun and asks for your wife -- should you reply honestly? It's all very nice to talk in terms of human nature and psychoanalyze psychopaths. But when you, your friends, your family are victimized -- I think most people sing a different tune. A psychopath doesn't care about others' feelings, possessions, or life. They only care about themselves. They tend to lust after power, money, and sex. Not all psychopaths are violent, but almost all violent people are psychopaths. I've read studies that estimate 4% of the population are psychopathic. I believe that the government has a moral duty to defend its citizens. Our allies may not agree with the plans, methods, conclusions that self-defense implies. But calling the attempt to defeat terrorism: stupid, crass, and other names is insulting.
Joseph H - 29 Aug 2004 20:25 GMT Joseph H replies:
I don't think I ever intimated that America has no right to protect itself - but that really is a separate matter from having a President who lacks an intelligent vision of the world.
