Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me and direct me to some sources. I'm
interested in finding out the following:
The Honour of Peverel in it's entirety (especially in Derbyshire and
Nottinghamshire). What I'm trying to find out is what lands/manors/
castles this entailed. Looking online I can only find either a short
list of a couple of major lands (ie: Nottingham Castle) or the
general reference that he held X number of lands in this or that
county. I'm looking really for a full listing I suppose. I know that
I can likely find them all in a book that would fully detail the
Domesday survey of 1086, but the copies of such books that I found at
the Toronto Reference Library were a bit confusing. If anyone could
direct me to books/etc that I can find this info, I'd greatly
appreciate it!
Second....
The lands and titles, etc, gifted to John of England (later King John)
by his brother Richard prior to Richard leaving for the crusades. I
found references to him getting a large number of lands and several
titles (along with the injunction that he stay out of England for a
set number of years, an injunction lifed thanks to his mother
Eleanor). Again, if you can direct me to this information I would
greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
Teri

You are not going to find an online list of lands belonging to this
short-lived honour. A list like this is something which researchers,
such as yourself, compile after trawling through primary sources at the
Public Records Office (now the National Archives)!

Hmmm....I had long ago come across the Wikipedia entry, but thank
you. And I live in Toronto, Canada, so it's a little bit on the
impossible side for me to access the Public Records Office/National
Archives.
