>and gets away never being caught?
It seems likely that he would be identified
anyway. He was after all a fairly well known
actor. If he escaped overseas - what country
would dare host him? Even Britain? He might
flee to Latin America and hide out somewhere.
But there would be rumors of him, what with
Confederate bitter-enders wanting to salute
him. He'd become a figure of legend, somewhere
between Bonnie Prince Charlie and Josef Mengele.
The U.S. would put out a huge reward for him,
and the Pinkertons would be after him 24/7.
There were photographs of him. He would become
the first man to have his photograph reprinted
on "Wanted" posters.
I give him three years on the run, By then
he either gets caught or drinks himself to
death (or dies of some loathsome tropical
disease).
