Just for fun... lost ancient texts29 Jun 2004 15:51 GMT18
In a message posted earlier today, I wrote that I would gladly sacrifice
the entire *Aeneid* to get back another ancient text that is now lost.
Loosing an epic that Virgil wanted to be destroyed anyhow and gaining,
for example, the lost parts of Livy seems like a fair deal.
The modern day Egyptians and the ancient Egyptians29 Jun 2004 07:14 GMT5
This discussion always gets very tense when people begin to talk about
the modern day Egyptians relating to the ancient Egyptians. Truth is
that a good portion of modern Egyptians do infact come from the
ancient Egyptian people. Egyptologist have done their fair share to
Your favorite ancient history websites?29 Jun 2004 01:05 GMT5
I've recently been reading a series of articles about Catal Huyuk,
perhaps the oldest known human settlement, and I realize how thrilling
ancient history can be.  Even so, I'm afraid my knowledge of it is
pretty hit-or-miss.
The truth about Joanne Fletcher28 Jun 2004 09:43 GMT2
It turns out Dr. Fletcher is one of University of York's
affiliates, but she's not on the payroll.

The Gathas27 Jun 2004 19:43 GMT16
I am thinking of reading the Gathas.  Actually i've been thinking
about reading the Rig veda or one of the other ancient indian texts

Which translations are anyone here familiar with?
Maya's End of the World - 12th(?) Dec 201227 Jun 2004 19:03 GMT2
Regardless of the actual day, which can vary by a few days, is this month
and year a actual Maya end-of-the-world date (according to their long count)
or just hyped rubbish.
If accurate, then do they say how we will meet our doom? asteroid? super

ITS A BRAINWASH, BREAK FREE, LIVE FOR YOURSELF, THERES NO ONE ELSE
MORE WORTH LIVING FOR. WHEN YOU DIE THAT'S IT. YOUR DNA HANGS AROUND,
GETS BURIED UNDERGROUND, ETC, AND THAT'S AS CLOSE TO BEING SAVED THAT
YOU WILL EVER GET. HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH. SECULAR? SURE I'M
When were dogs domesticated?26 Jun 2004 02:02 GMT29
I was wondering if there is any documentation of when
dogs were first domesticated.
I once read that dogs may have been the first animals domesticated by man.

What is the evidence for Phoenician involvement with tin from Britain?24 Jun 2004 20:34 GMT105
We all know the Phoenician traders traded tin from Cornwall, right?  We may
no longer think they actually mined it, but somehow they were involved.
For four centuries, a Phoenician link with British tin trade has been
accepted as more or less gospel. Of course, 400 years ago there ...

Are you a Jew, Christian or Muslim?  Then do YOU know which caste you
belong to in the semitic caste system as laid down by Moses the law
giver?  If you are Christian or Muslim you are the low caste
Israelites who will be killed if you even dare enter the temple of
