Greeks vs Phoenecians30 Jan 2006 15:20 GMT25
Both Greeks and Phoenecians colonized extensively throughout the
Mediterranean world.  They traded with eachother.  Fought against eachother
at times, and other times fought against another enemy.
Yet the Greeks produced intellectual giants and their contributions to
Challenge an economical vibrant Roman Empire30 Jan 2006 09:38 GMT216
Why Western part of the Rome Empire fell, well there are many reasons
suggested! One point is clear that throughout the fifth century, when
Roman emperors had money and assembled troops, their army was effective
enough. The problem was there were not enough Roman soldiers and the ...
"Land of Rameses" and the EXODUS27 Jan 2006 08:14 GMT2
The timeline for Akhenaton varies depending upon the source but using the
timeline found in "EGYPT, The World Of the Pharoahs" we find good continuity
for comparisons from the Bible for Joseph and Moses.
In the above timeline the 1st of Akhenaton is dated to 1351BCE.  If we date

Look at this http://www.mysteriousetruscans.com/tarlioness.html
The man depicted in the fresco in the second photo looks like a black

Ancient Wealth/Security  Question25 Jan 2006 02:28 GMT7
What did wealthy private citizens do with their accumulated wealth to
ensure security?  For example, assume Herodotus was a very affluent
retired trader living in Thurii in 435 BC.  What security options would
he have had available to protect his hypothetical amassed fortune?

Hyksos24 Jan 2006 21:22 GMT33
Attended a discussion group recently, and one topic was the source of
the Hebrew religions.  All agreed it was Egypt, but the details were
controversial:  Was there an Israelite presence in Egypt, and when?
Some evidence suggests they were the Hyksos (Josephus, I think), but so
Why so little info about Sumerians?23 Jan 2006 03:28 GMT107
It seems we have tons of info on ancient Egypt. Why do we have so
little on Sumer? Did climate prevent preservation of archeological
artifacts more than in Egypt? Or did later civilizations wipe out
Sumerian artifacts? Or did the Sumerians produce less preservable
politics and old testament and zionism and religion22 Jan 2006 06:06 GMT2
In a recent fracas with Ireland, Israel demanded Ireland accept Zionism as a religious issue of a
birthright for Jews.
That should answer every issue raised by the subject line. A "birthright" exists only for whatever
Jews are in the old testament.
Christian Gnostics and reincarnation21 Jan 2006 14:52 GMT4
I am currently researching a scholarly article on attitudes towards the
doctrine of reincarnation amongst early Christians.
Does anybody know of specific Christian Gnostic sects which explicitly
affirmed this doctrine, and sources that document this?
war-cry21 Jan 2006 12:56 GMT6
I'm looking for the answer to the following question:
In the ancient wars, some men had to "raise the war-cry", at the beginning
of the battle.
How can we call these men?

Synopsis:
How then do we reconcile the Torah's twice repeated 600 thousand figure
with the contradictions with history this causes? Recall our flawed
Flintstone proof. The problem was with the dictionary we were

Why is Da Vinci famous?19 Jan 2006 00:39 GMT1
I wonder how Da Vinci became so famous?  Was he always famous?
He finished few works of art (try to name four, not counting sketches).
Most of his product is in the form sketches and notebooks.
I think he could easily have become obscure.
