Iraq ain't the way30 Nov 2003 06:41 GMT27
The several topics running on Iraq are becoming self-circumlocutory.
Those who defend the action and its progress find it increasingly difficult
to do so.
Those who foresaw current events do not glory in this, but agonise at the

Archers at Agincourt.29 Nov 2003 11:38 GMT2
I was watching a tv program "battlefield detectives" (History channel on
Canadian TV), in which they insinuated that the English (or Welsh)
archers at Agincourt had little or no impact. It stated that the English
arrows were made of cheap iron and could not penetrate the French ...
Cab Whistles29 Nov 2003 01:23 GMT1
In Victorian Times lots of cab whistles were in use. Whistling one time
would call a four-wheeler, two times a Hansom.
Later, somewhere after 1905, whistling one time would call a motorcab, two a
four-wheeler and three a Hansom, i believe.

The Brits having nothing to gain by the Iraqi war except body bags. The

join Americans in the fight against terrorism, where was the US in Englands

Who Killed Jesus Christ? Letter to a Bigot23 Nov 2003 20:50 GMT14
We Jews KNOW who killed Jesus Christ -- really pinned him for good --
and it wasn't a Jew.  It was Odin in his modern guise as Santa Clause.
You think I'm bullshitting?  If you live in the United States, take a
look around town right now. How many Christian symbols of Christ's
Living WW I vets?23 Nov 2003 19:25 GMT6
When I was a kid in the 50's everybody's dad was a WW II vet and everybody's
grand-dad was a WW I vet.  On Veterans Day (Armistace day to you old-timers)
here in the US, there was always a parade.  Plenty of WW I vets led the
parade, WW II vets would dust off their old uniforms and ...

Why was it introduced, and why was it so unpopular?

An Imaginary Question22 Nov 2003 01:48 GMT1
It is presently fashionable to condemn colonialism in all forms as
disrespectful to indigenous people, fraught with capitalistic greed, as no
more than ego building for rival European tyrants, and so on and so forth.
But just for fun, suppose that we are the crew on some Captain ...
Gladstone and Desraeli21 Nov 2003 21:46 GMT2
Not long ago I met a medical doctor by the name of Gladstone.  I was
introduced to him humorously as "The Prime Minister".  To play along I asked
how he was getting along with Disraeli.  Anyway, a conversation followed
about Victorian PM's and how many times these two were in and ...
