The link below goes to a Ron Maxwell response to a highly critical
review of Gods & Generals.  Ron's response speaks for itself in terms
of his views on the making and intent of the film.

At the base of the blade are some halmarks.  I will try to reproduce them

Hi.  I just watched the movie "The Gangs of New York."  I doubt very
much the movie is an accurate portrayal on many levels, but I am
wondering about the Draft Rebellion portrayed in the movie.
I could believe there was a rebellion.  I could even believe that the

One for the artillery experts20 Oct 2003 20:25 GMT18
Hey, folks.  Couple of questions for a scene I'm writing.  The background,
in case any of it is relevant is: Pennsylvania artillery battery opposing
the 4th Texas at Second Manassas. Historically, the Texas brigade overran
them at Gaines' Mill and took several of their guns. I'm ...
Relic Hunting20 Oct 2003 08:28 GMT3
We recently un-earthed an old well in Corinth, Mississippi where we found
160 or so bullets, numerous buttons (most eaten up by ground acidity), 2/3
of a US buckle, a perfect eleven star cs wreath, calvary boots, low and high
top brogans (about 15-20 pair), numerous iron articles, ...

Historical fiction: Owen Parry18 Oct 2003 20:37 GMT15
As a non-professional in the history arena, and more of a very interested
student of the ACW, I allow myself the luxury of taking some time away from
Catton, Foote, Sears, etc., and read a little Jakes and Shaara. :-) I
recently discovered Owen Parry, and just finished Faded Coat of ...
Query: Sodomy and the Civil War18 Oct 2003 16:01 GMT5
War and sodomy have gone together since the days of the Greek hoplites
and probably well before that. Were there documented cases of sodomy on
either side of the conflict in the ACW. If so, how was the matter
handled? Courtmartial? Summary execution? Dishonorable discharge (no ...
Scholarly work18 Oct 2003 08:26 GMT1
Came across this on a news wire. It's available from Proquest
(www.proquestcompany.com or www.il.proquest.com), but only for
educators, apparently. Looks interesting. Too bad Missouri isn't
included, but that might be a book in itself.
Virginia 1864 - OOB16 Oct 2003 08:27 GMT7
>From rolls in the OR and other sources, I have gleaned the following
command strengths in the Virginia theatre beginning in May 1864 with a
few notable additions during June and July. Am I wildly wrong with any
figures or missing any large contingents?
