Jefferson Davis and Fort Sumter29 Feb 2004 23:51 GMT2
What about the idea that it wasn't Lincoln who schemed to start the war at
Fort Sumter as the neocons like to believe, but rather Jefferson Davis?
Brooks has already broached this issue, and I've put together what I think
is a prima facie case in support of it.

Sir, I have enjoyed reading your comments in this group, and have decided to
order your memoirs from 1stBooks.com in paperback form.  I'm sure my

"Going Home"--From "Gods And Generals"29 Feb 2004 08:24 GMT10
Over at http://members.aol.com/geowrs1/music/goinghome.html I've
placed a link to my solo, acoustic, instrumental 6-string guitar
interpretation of that truly beautiful Mary Fahl song, "Going
Home"--from the Civil War film, "Gods And Generals," released in
For n canfield: uses of research28 Feb 2004 14:20 GMT1
I've worked on projects that involved creating historical fiction set in the
Civil War era.  In my experience, whenever we were stuck and needed a new plot
line, we could generally do a little more research and discover something that
we could use.
n canfield question: character name?27 Feb 2004 22:06 GMT1
(I'm hoping that the book discussion is still on, perhaps extended due to the
technical glitches?)
Question on the book: one thing that's fairly obvious is that your
protagonist's name bears a striking resemblance to the name that you post under

I realized I enjoy the subject of the War between the states.  The more I
read the more learn that it was truely a rebellion instead of my peolpe
against 'those people'.  Every state except SC had regiments ...
CHINESE TO EDIT "COLD MOUNTAIN"27 Feb 2004 05:29 GMT1
Chinese movie sensors may show "Cold Mountain" in China due to a new
policy that allows many foreign films into China or Chinese viewing.
However, the Chinese are planning to edit some parts of Cold Mountain.
This will be done in accordance with and to follow Chinese standards
Civil War Fiction Writing Questions26 Feb 2004 23:47 GMT3
As a student, (but by no means an expert!) on American history, I am
interested in writing Civil War novels.  I have ideas for at least
five, ranging from almost completely concerning the war, to having
characters at least affected by it, including veterans in some of the
COLD MOUNTAIN LIES: WHAT HAPPENS AS FOREIGNERS DOMINATE MOVIE    INDUSTRY24 Feb 2004 22:39 GMT33
The movie Cold Mountain was as cold as the ICEMAN.  It was cold for who
was missing from that movie, the Black Union soldiers who participated
in that battle. Why were they not included in the movie? Do foreign
producers know the facts?

Does somebody have numbers on how many people fought against their "own"
side ? Any good sources to look it all up ?
Historiographical Debate22 Feb 2004 09:38 GMT1
Hello Chaps,
We are two reprobate undergraduates looking to find how the historical debate on
the civil war has developed from earliest times until the present.  The
overwhelming mountain of Civil War literature makes it a ghastly undertaking for

Sooo...where did it all begin??? I live near Butler, Mo...and as much
as I like to hear claims to fame on our local history, I'm afraid I'm
a bit of a doubting Thomas on this one...Butler flaunts this claim
(city where the Civil War began)relentlessly, their local paper, the
