Has there ever been a study made as to the effects on Lincoln and the
union if the north had pulled out of Ft.Sumter before they were
attacked? Would this have damaged Lincoln and his administration?

Early in the war many top officials and others thought the war would
only last six months or less. On what did they base this assumption?
Did they think that the South with all of its hatred would simply come
back into the union? Did they think the Union would just say let them

It has been stated that Virginia had a loyal governor and legislature
during the war. How was it possible for the state to be taken out of
the union and joining the the confederacy---Paul
