Just finishing a book by a USAAF captain who flew Spit V's, IX's, and
Mustangs out of Italy with 309 Fighter Squadron.
He mentions that some pilots held the rank of 'Flight Officer'.
Anyone know what that is, and how it fits or doesn't fit into the standard

I am looking for information that would lead me to a book or other material
about the graft, corruption, and desertion that took place in the
"Communication Zone" in France during that latter part of 1944 when the
fighting front had moved east into Belgium and Eastern France. Thanks ...
