On D-Day, 80% of the German military was fighting Russia29 Jun 2004 18:09 GMT13
Is there a counter to the argument that the importance of D-Day is
over blown because 80% of the Nazi forces were committed to the
Eastern front fight with Russia?

Calais29 Jun 2004 18:09 GMT14
I saw a show about smashing the German defenses on June 6th, D day. Calais
was very well defended and the rest of the sectors were still catching up.
Fortifications were not near done. I wonder if the German's could have done
something similer to what the  allies did with ...
WWII US Counter Intelligence and Recruitment29 Jun 2004 16:39 GMT1
I am currently researching a family member lost during WWII, and I was
wondering if anyone out there with knowledge of counter intelligence
and recruitment strategies could help me out.  My main question is
were there ANY US groups that would recruit soldiers under the guise
Battlefield Typewriters and Mimeographs29 Jun 2004 00:51 GMT3
The quantity of typed documents coming out of each Company and Battalion and
every other unit all the way up was really a lot -- status reports (Morning
Reports, After Action Reports, Journals), operation instructions, General
and Special Orders, commendations, equipment requests, ...

Evolution of puttees and weights in pants?28 Jun 2004 00:12 GMT2
IIRC, Cdn forces used 9mm spent rounds (Sten Gun ammo?) stuffed inside
shoelaces for pant weights.
1. The weights were put on over the bare leg under the pants.
2. Boots were then put on, puttees wrapped around the end of the pant leg,
Warsaw Rising - Forgotten Soldiers of WW II26 Jun 2004 07:05 GMT5
recently, about 3 weeks ago on CNN I saw full program about Warsaw
Rising of 1944, the event that is nearly completely forgotten in
Western media (because of not much proud betrayal of Western
politicians according to the above event).
Smallest ASW vessel to sink U boats?25 Jun 2004 17:09 GMT9
The smallest Asw vessel I know of to sink a U Boat was
an 82 ft sub chaser - CS13 of the Cuban Navy which
accounted for the U 176 on May 15 1943 off Cal Sail Bank.
There were a number of sinkings by 165 ft Coast Guard
Chinese/US/British Identification Hanky24 Jun 2004 16:57 GMT1
My father-in-law was a gunner on a supply ship owned by the Army,
operated by the Navy, and crewed by the Coast Guard. He says his ship
looked a lot like the one in the longer shots in _Mister. Roberts_:

Roosevelt knew before the attack on Pearl Harbor??  Any truth to this?24 Jun 2004 01:09 GMT14
According to a website called threeworldwars.com, they believe or have
evidence that Roosevelt knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor before
it started.  The story begins on September 1, 1939, when the war
started, Roosevelt was asked by a reporter whether America would stay
Hitler's Death....Was he alone?23 Jun 2004 16:36 GMT12
Was Hitler alone when he chose to shoot himself? Was there any particular
reason he chose that moment? eg. Was he in a position to be captured? What
ever happened to the body?
