Ambrose and War Stories31 Oct 2005 22:09 GMT9
One has to doubt war stories -- even those told by people
"who were there".  I have no figures on WWII (I hope someone
does.), but I do have figures from wars bracking WWII.

Most hazardous occupation?31 Oct 2005 17:55 GMT18
What was the most hazardous occupation of the war? I have read that 51
per cent of RAF Bomber Command aircrew were killed, and that 64 per
cent of German submariners failed to return from war patrols. Were
there occupations/specialties that were more dangerous?
Any Reports of German or Japanese Defectors?31 Oct 2005 17:55 GMT10
Were there any reports on whether any German or Japanese soldiers
defected, bringing with them an aircraft, secrets, etc....
And I guess I should add if the Allies ever did the same?
thx - Craig
Toughest allied tank ?30 Oct 2005 23:22 GMT16
It's widely known that the Germans put out some very formidable tanks
during WWII. In terms of being able to take a beating. What allied tank do
you feel held up best against axis anti tank guns and tanks ? .. Here are
my choices

world war two and have some questions:
Highest rank is major, then captain, first lieutenant, second

A War Story (Or "Oops!")27 Oct 2005 23:43 GMT2
One of my college profs, a WWII vet, told this one in class about 1979,
I suppose as an illustration of 'unintended consequences'.  (IIRC, it
happened on Okinawa, but it may have been another late-war invasion
island).
Why wasnt the British army semi-elite?27 Oct 2005 17:00 GMT199
Its a q on it's own.  AS I see it, the British army, NOT the german
army, has tended to be the best army in europe, simply because the
british army was plainly a small semi-elite force, even if the german
army was good for a normal type army.

Corrugated Junkers26 Oct 2005 00:50 GMT3
Does anybody know how Junkers fabricated the corrugated wing skins on
the Ju-52 (and older configurations)??

Finding DSC Citations23 Oct 2005 22:18 GMT2
After several years of effort, I finally succeeded in locating the
Distinguished Service Cross citations for John Cornell and Mario Fortuna of
Company "C" of 38th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division. Since
it took a LOT more effort than I had initially expected, I am ...
Cat in the Cockpit21 Oct 2005 17:27 GMT15
I suspect this is almost certainly a FOAF urban myth but you never
know...
Has anyone heard of a (possibly) WWII pilot or aircrew bringing their
cat along on missons? (sound ruddy cruel to me but still).
Question about SS black uniform21 Oct 2005 17:26 GMT8
Hi, can anyone tell me when the SS dropped the black uniform for field
gray..., was it at the outbreak of WW2?
British Submarines20 Oct 2005 16:56 GMT12
I was just viewing the film "The Man Who Never Was" and
it shows a British submarine delivering the body with
the fake documents off the coast of Spain.  This got
me to wondering about the British Submarine force.
ASNs18 Oct 2005 17:10 GMT3
I have a single individual out of 10,000+ with a serial number of
"R-689341".  Is this a legitimate
World War II Army Serial number or a typo?  What is the breakdown of WWII US
Army SNs? (Enlisted)
US T-3416 Oct 2005 22:19 GMT2

> Why didn't we copy the German MG 42?  Why didn't the US adopt and mass
