Was he vasted for the US war effort when Roosevelt sent him to China? I am not asking whether Roosevelt ought to know that when he sent him, but whether Stillwell would have served better if given a combat post in Pacific (likely in post later held by Eichelberger) or Europe

Hello, Im trying to decipher my fathers discharge paperwork and the Organization information is giving me a headache. Dad was discharged in '46 after he had been in Japan with the Occupation Forces in the Signal Corps.

The existence of a secret British torture centre known as the London Cage has been revealed in papers recently discovered in the UK national Archives at Kew. German prisoners were hidden from the Red Cross and subjected to torture.

How soon did the Allies know that there were going to be more problems than just beating the Germans in 1945, ie: the dissection of Berlin, Russia becoming a force of its own in Europe, the beginning of the Cold War, etc.
