Supply General JCH Lee?31 Jul 2006 22:59 GMT1
It seems most books do not have a positive opinion about the General in
charge of supplies, JCH Lee.   A common theme is that he took luxurious
quarters in Paris and his did a poor job.  I believe a black market
developed under him as well late in the war.

On this page:

a leaflet "Vendetta" is shown. Prepared by the German SS, it was spread to
Italian civilians. So it is in Italian language. A translation is given.

Chemicals in US bombs??30 Jul 2006 21:07 GMT7
Lately I had an argument with my father-in-law and he argued that the
allies dropped bombs and their chemicals (or whatever they're composed
of) have effected the soil and that it's no wonder that his vegetables
don't grow properly or are smaller.... 60 years on!!
Karski reporting in London30 Jul 2006 21:07 GMT1
I found the following piece of text (Hoover Digest 2000 . No. 4):

Wearing a Ukrainian guard's uniform, Karski later gathered information at
Izbica-a "sorting point," as he called it, for the Belzec extermination
Wartime long distance telephone limited bandwidth30 Jul 2006 20:46 GMT8
This is a technical question about long distance US telephone service
during the war.
As we know, the war caused telephone usage to skyrocket.
To improve capacity, the Bell System reduced the bandwidth of voice
American draftees--poor physical condition?30 Jul 2006 20:42 GMT83
In several histories (including Omar Bradley's) it says American young
men drafted for the military were "soft", out of shape, and needed to
be toughened up for military service.  They also suffered from poor
nutrition and medical care.

You are presumably asking about German army
tank commanders.   "Ace" is conventinally used

Cassino - the hardest fought battle?29 Jul 2006 17:54 GMT9
I just finished the very readable book "Monte Cassino: The
Hardest-Fought Battle of World War II" by Matthew Parker. I liked the
book but wonder if it exagerated the scale of Cassino. For example, the
first paragraph of his Introduction says: "Only the bloodbaths of

What were British war plans against Japan in the 1930s?
If Japan had moved against Malaya during that period- how did Britain plan
to defend its colonial possessions?

Is there a list of the names of SS officers? I want to look up if there
was an SS officer named Stefanowski (possibly a Germanized Pole).
Generals Nicknames24 Jul 2006 04:22 GMT36
"Old blood And Guts", well you know who I'm talking about.
Troops often come up with pithy nicknames for Generals either their own
or the opposition.
