Attack on Rommel & gun camera film30 Oct 2006 04:37 GMT2
The postings on gun camera film suggested a
question. Has any gun camera film of the attack that
wounded Irwin Rommel been discovered? Some
of the documentaries have footage of ground attacks
Gun camera films29 Oct 2006 10:25 GMT7
Is it possible to obtain WWII gun camera footage from specific pilots?
Do these films still exist?  My late grandfather flew 47's and 51's out
of Bodney England.  I would love to see the films of his victories or
any flying for that matter. Thanks, John Rauk
Ques: GI Bill for Navajo Code Talkers of WW II?24 Oct 2006 16:15 GMT5
I need help from the informed readers here. I just saw Flag of Our
Fathers and was discussing it with a daughter of a Cherokee who served
along with the Navajo Code Talkers in World War II.
The lady made the claim that the Navajo Code Talkers didn't get any GI
What was the best subgun used during the war23 Oct 2006 16:18 GMT53
I was just wondering what the consensus would be concerning what was
the best submachine gun used during the war. I know from watching
several documentrys on the history channel that American GIs tended to
like using captured MP40s because they were much lighter than the M1

We are now building a web site about the history of our small town Rânes
(department of Orne, France) during WW2 and later.
We have found some documents about adoption of Rânes by the city of Keene,
New Hampshire in 1948 according to the "Medway plan" see:

I just picked up a little book published by Chrysler
Corporation just after the war. I discovered that I
had another of these books also by Chrysler.
One is titled "Bullets by the Billions".

Re: A case of concience/Indiv German Soldiers19 Oct 2006 19:39 GMT5
On these two points..
Regarding the original point, I remember reading a long time ago about a
case of a German soldier who was assigned to a post in one of the
'death' camps.   I seem to remember it was directly connected with the
poland: country on roller skates?19 Oct 2006 16:23 GMT9
I have long referred to Stalin's shifting of Poland's borders 150
miles to the west as making Poland "the country on roller skates". I'm
reasonably sure that *I* didn't make it up. Can anyone point me to a
reference that might show when this term arose?
Identity cards issued in Britain after the war.17 Oct 2006 21:26 GMT7
I was born in London 1952 and I've just discovered that I had an
identity card.
I wonder for how many years after the war were identity cards issued?

Soviet Factory Move16 Oct 2006 21:00 GMT2
Anyone know of any reasonable books in
English about the Soviet effort to move its
factories beyond the reach of the Nazis?
It must have been a fantastic effort.
British artillery - the best?16 Oct 2006 17:45 GMT22
I've been reading a range of literature recently that mentions
specifically the British 25 pdr Howitzer and the British 17 pdr
Anti-Tank gun.
There seems to be a reoccurring attitude across a range of work that
Antony Eden's speaches15 Oct 2006 20:41 GMT4
I don't speak well english.
I'd like to know the dates of two speaches of Antony Eden, in july 1944.
The first one is about the killing of 41 allied air-officiers escaped from
Stalag Luft III at Sagan (the "Great Escape) on 24th of march 1944.
SAS and Hitlers commando order14 Oct 2006 17:07 GMT13
Hitlers commando order is regarded as a most infamous act by the Nazis
and at Nuremberg Keitel and Jodl paid the price for implementing that
order.
But on reading extensively about the activities of the British SAS
