Taxes in nazi germany29 Nov 2006 21:38 GMT3
Maybe a bit OT, but does anybody here have information on the tax
policies of Nazi Germany? Such as tax rates, bracket threshholds, and so
on. I have failed abysmally to find any useful data using google. :(
Anything can be used, thanks in advance.
Possibilty of Himmler planning a coup?27 Nov 2006 17:46 GMT6
By 1944 Himmler controlled a vast SS empire including military,
internal security and foreign intelligence branches. Himmler was also
secretly in touch with the Allies trying to bargain for a favorable
ending of the war for the Nazis. In one of Hitlers comments following
Air Drop of Supplies to Jedburgh and French Partisans27 Nov 2006 16:14 GMT2
Can anyone help me locate representative photos of the supplies and
weapons/ammunition air dropped to the OSS teams and the French
Partisans by the RAF and the US Army Air Corps during WWII? I'm
interested in both the containers as well as stuff dropped with a
War value of "iron with high phosphorous content"?27 Nov 2006 10:28 GMT9
(This issue has come up before, but perhaps some can offer a fresh
perspective on it.)
During WW II, there was a highway tunnel under construction in New
York.  Some suggested that work on the tunnel be halted for the

Sevareid's "Anzio to Rome"25 Nov 2006 17:58 GMT2
I am reading a paperback volume "Combat: European Theater", a
collection of WW II stories written by soldiers or war correspondents
edited by Don Congdon, 1961 edition. One of those stories, "Anzio to
Rome", was written by the American correspondent Eric Sevareid. I
DP Index Card23 Nov 2006 09:46 GMT1
Does anyone know how someone can get information about a specific WW II
displaced person (DP) if you know their DP Index Card Registration
Number?  Is there anavailable index?
It appears that DPs were registered and issued cards by the Allied
Unit identification and "X" lists23 Nov 2006 05:22 GMT1
Hi guys, I'm trying to make sense of some paperwork that was hand
written back in 1943.  Not only is the handwriting hard to decipher,
but, the meaning behind some of the "acronyms", or units, is eluding
me.
Adolf Hitler and the Balfour Declaration22 Nov 2006 22:49 GMT29
I've always presumed that the Balfour Declaration was a possibly cynical
piece of expediency aimed at rallying Jewish support for the Allied War
effort,
First question:  did it have any discernable effect, either in Germany,
Individual German soldier's acts of kindness to the enemy22 Nov 2006 16:10 GMT15
Were there many cases of individual soldiers or commanders who showed
compassion to the enemy on the Eastern front?
Tardy surrenders20 Nov 2006 17:36 GMT6
We have an annual reminder of a precise ending to the first World War:
eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, .in 1918 the
guns all fell silent on the Western Front. Our World War 2 however had
no such precise ending. In Europe all hostilities may have ended, ...
ETO Gas Shortage at end of August 194420 Nov 2006 05:15 GMT20
This is a subject on which I have done only local research within Third US
Army's XX Corps. So I am seeking to find out more of the bigger picture on
the gas shortages. While much focus has been on Patton's Third US Army
running out of gas at Verdun, the shortages were apparently ...
Taxation in occupied territories20 Nov 2006 03:39 GMT3
What was the process of taxation in occupied territories? For example,
in France there was already a system of taxation, then after June 1940,
part of the country was occupied by German troops. Did citizens and
businesses in the occupied areas pay different taxes than those under
Seek info re: Italian aristocrat "quote" re aerial bombing just-pre-WWII19 Nov 2006 05:52 GMT11
This is my delurk message...
I know that technically the Spanish Civil War antedates WWII, but since
Italian and German air forces cut there teeth there I hope I'll be
granted leeway.
Madeleine Kent: "I Married a German"17 Nov 2006 21:22 GMT1
I recently read Simon Garfield's "We Are At War", a collection of
diaries written by British people in the run-up to the supposed
invasion of Britain by Germany.  A number of the diarists mentioned
that they'd read a book popular at the time, "I Married a German" by
