German-captured US fuel dumps in the Bulge30 Mar 2007 17:02 GMT1
The German attack in the Bulge depended on capturing and using US fuel to
keep the attack going. Much has been made of the quick thinking that blocked
Kampfgruppe Peiper's access to the fuel dump north of Stavelot. But the
defenders of the fuel dump at Samrée did not have such ...

According to Dr Adam Tooze, Wages of Destruction. Hitler went to

WW2?
Hitler's war aims26 Mar 2007 22:00 GMT5
It is my impression of Adolf Hitler that the man was
psychologically driven to conflict with the whole world.  We
sometimes ask what his goals were, what might have satisfied him,
when would he stop.  But it's hard to see any clear answers to
What was Mussolini's appeal?26 Mar 2007 16:27 GMT6
At Youtube.com I watched a couple of newsreel of Mussolini speaking.
His grimaces while speaking were ridiculous and sometimes comical.
Whereas Hitler had a fire and passion in his speech, I could not see
the same in Mussolini.

Hitler in Norway?24 Mar 2007 16:26 GMT4
Did Hitler ever visit occupied Norway?
I have a vague memory that he visited Oslo,
and mad a speech while standing on a
"Panzer VI" - which was _not_ a Tiger.
What would US forces have done with "letters from Iwo Jima"?24 Mar 2007 07:09 GMT6
In Clint Eastwood's film, the letters were supposedly excavated 50
years later.
Suppose US forces had found them in the immediate aftermath of the
battle?

The Honourable Finnish Swastika - a history22 Mar 2007 20:51 GMT80
The Honourable Finnish Swastika - a history
Anti-Semitism used to be widespread in Europe. As the Nazis took over in
1932 in Germany, the systematic persecution of Jews commenced, and after
the outbreak of war, systematic genocide. The Holocaust and the
MOS 795?22 Mar 2007 16:57 GMT4
Does anyone out there know the meaning of an MOS of 795?
It must have been tank-specific. All of the occurrences (at least five) of
it that I have seen were the specialties of guys with the rank of buck
Sergeant (in 40th Tank Battalion of 7th Armored Division).
Transport of ground troops?21 Mar 2007 14:35 GMT28
In war movies, whenever troops are shown moving from place to another,
they normally show a crowded road with trucks and tanks moving in the
center with soldiers marching alongside.  An example would be Patton's
quick turn to fight in the Battle of the Bulge.
Looking for book/resource suggestion20 Mar 2007 15:27 GMT3
Can anyone suggest a book that would have detailed descriptions of the
various units for the US Army during WWII?
For example, the kind of information i am looking for is:
What equipment and how many men were included in a Division?
Looking for book identification20 Mar 2007 02:56 GMT4

This is what I remember: book is about US submarine patrol boat that was
guarding ships traveling north seas during WWII. Book was written in 60-80s,
I think by former participant of events and considered one of the best
