Hilter's downfall - when did it start?30 Apr 2007 16:16 GMT161
According to my limited historical knowledge of WWII I understand that
Hitler's war strategy began to faulter around 1942/3 when he tried to
invade Russia.
>From that point onward he put Germany in a situation she was fighting
Resource rationing on the homefront30 Apr 2007 05:26 GMT13
Can anyone recommend a resource that discusses rationing of resources
on the homefront?
In particular, i would like a resource that discusses the wide range
of items that were rationed or impacted by the war effort.
Dunkirk in German hands until the end of the war.28 Apr 2007 21:45 GMT16
I was reading in wikipedia that Dunkirk was held by the Germans until
May 1945.
One would've thought this port would've been taken by the Allies long
before in the push towards Antwerp.

Operating Tanks at Omaha first 6 hours27 Apr 2007 20:59 GMT68
Is there any information that shines some light on the number of
tanks, that were operating at Omaha from H-hour till noon? (Including
those that were destroyed during).  In several accounts both in books
and in my conversations with some "First Wavers", accounts of single
Equipment losses26 Apr 2007 16:22 GMT1
Are there any aggregate figures for how many aircraft, tanks, and
other equipment were lost in WWII? There are numbers scattered here
and there as how many planes the Luftwaffe or RAF lost in 1942, but
are any combined totals for all combatants?
Anything Similar to Graves Registration for Japan and Germany?25 Apr 2007 16:14 GMT5
I assume with the Allies being the victors, we were able to recover
and record our dead. Were any Axis remains ever returned to Germany
and/or Japan? What kind of accounting was done?

George24 Apr 2007 16:07 GMT4
I would surely be pleased to have some direction on finding
out lots of information on "George" the auto pilot used
by the RAF during WWII. There are lots of references to "using"
George, but not much about George himself/herself.
Did Woods botch the Nazi hangings deliberately?24 Apr 2007 16:06 GMT55
How much credibility should be given to the accusations that John C.
Woods deliberately caused hanged Nazis to suffer longer than
necessary?

How did Gen. Emmett O'Donnell, Jr. (USAF) get nickname "Rosie"?23 Apr 2007 21:07 GMT3
Before we had today's obnoxious TV talk host, we had a WW 2 Air Force
general "Rosie O'Donnell" (Emmett O'Donnell, Jr.)
How did he get the odd nickname "Rosie"?  Was there a "Rosie
O'Donnell" character in popular culture in the 1930s-1940s?  A Google
Ginger Lacey23 Apr 2007 05:35 GMT2
Ginger [James] Lacey. Does any one remember?
Fought the good fight from Sgt. Pilot to Sqdn. Leader from
Sept. 1939 to Sept. 1945. The only post war reference that I have seen was

Tiger Tank question19 Apr 2007 20:32 GMT76
Why didn't the Panzer4s, Tiger tank have a sloping design - instead of the
flat layout- at the front to help ward off shells?
Was there a design reason for it- or was it just an oversight?
And why didn't they change the frontal design to a sloping stance later on?
Were there any large "end the war now" demonstrations by any country in WWII?16 Apr 2007 16:14 GMT52
As the war waged on over the years, were there any large end the war
protests like what we have seen the past 3 or so decades?  All I
remember hearing about were peaceful pre war demonstrations in front
of the white house from the isolationists.  I doubt there were any

We are the product of our sources, our opinions are beside the

Hitler's war aims15 Apr 2007 05:39 GMT38
Hitler was driven by paranoia that saw international Jewry at the
heart of most that threatened Germany. He rationalised that the HQ of
this effort was in Washington and ultimately he would have to face
down the Americans. To that end all the plans for reamament , which
