Sturmtiger: did any of them ever successfully attack anything?31 May 2007 17:56 GMT1
I just finished reading a short, bilingual (no, not spanish, polish) book on
the sturmtiger. A bizarre mix of assault tank, rocket launcher and mobile
mortar launcher built on the tiger chassis only a few were ever produced and
I know some saw combat but did they ever accomplish ...

German Dagger - ?30 May 2007 17:45 GMT5
I am trying to ID this dagger for my neighbor.  I appears to be
ceremonial dress wear.  It is possibly German as the engraving is in
German and the designer is German.  The top two flags appear to be
composites.  The top left flag has an iron cross in the center of the
IJN anti-submarine war planning29 May 2007 17:48 GMT19
Did the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) have a serious (well-thought out)
anti-submarine plan? Considering the vast number of ships sunk by USN
submarines, it seems unlikely.
I remember reading from a minor history book that the Japanese had no major
Using BF110's against allied daylight bombing raids29 May 2007 05:29 GMT14
I had posted this originally to military.sci.naval (or is it navy, I forget)
when someone pointed out this newsgroup to me (whom I want to thank, but I
don't have his posting handle). Anyway, this is a discussion I had w/someone
at a LAN party recently:
Rank of US base commanders, Pacific Islands, WW2?27 May 2007 20:43 GMT3
when the US stormed the Pacific after Pearl Harbor, bases were set up
on numerous islands after Guadalcanal. Now, on Guadalcanal, it was the
Marines who ran the base, and at least initially General Vandegrift
was the base commander. No, the questions:
Negotiations between Japan and Britain 194026 May 2007 17:54 GMT7
Considering the dire straits the British Empire was in - in 1940- did the
Japanese Govt press the British, French and Dutch Govts for trade
concessions or special diplomatic deals to get at their colonial resources
in SEA (South East Asia)? The former weren't in a position to ...
Tehran conference and German paratroops25 May 2007 16:17 GMT5
More from the Churchill's Bodyguard series.  The episode dealing with
the Tehran conference includes the story of the German paratroopers
(specifically Skorczeny's guys) dropped into Iran on a mission to kill
the big three.  What I found really interesting is that the voice over
Japan's Sendai division24 May 2007 20:59 GMT1
I remember a book I do not have any more which wrote about the
battle of Guadalcanal.
A passage spoke about Japan's Sendai division. It said it was formed
of peasants of the Sendai area (correct me if I am wrong) and that

It looks like my previous answer to Andrew Clark was lost in
cyberspace, so I'm posting it as a new thread.
