German signal corps in occupied France27 Jun 2008 17:32 GMT10
How did the Germans disperse their communications centers in France
during the occupation and up through the months leading to D-Day?
Did they run telephone wires between every small town or did they rely
on the civillian telephone system?  If they ran their own cables, were
Definition for "Non-Battle Casualties"25 Jun 2008 17:12 GMT44
I'm trying to find a definition for "Non-Battle Casualties" reported on this
page:

I especially need a exhaustive *and* official list of cases that may have
A smarter Hitler in 1943 & 194424 Jun 2008 05:24 GMT27
In 1943 & 1944 if the German military had made deep withdrawals in North
Africa and in Russia, also straightened their lines the German losses
would have been much less. So the German military would have been a much
better shape in June 1944.
How did the USA safely get warships from West coast to the South Pacific?23 Jun 2008 21:29 GMT3
Did Japan set up any picket boats, subs, etc along any anticipated
routes the USA took to get to the South Pacific?   Did they have the
inventory to patrol the sea lanes the USA used?  1942 was a year for
widespread occupation, was that there primary goal? I have read that
Big Aerial Battle Near Poznan?23 Jun 2008 17:14 GMT7
Dears,
I'm looking for information on a very large aerial
battle which is described in Chuck Yeager's autobiography.
This took place during a bombing raid on fuel depots
Britain's dreary years23 Jun 2008 16:22 GMT22
For those who persist in the illusion that Britain came out of the war
smiling and in good financial shape, the new book (well, new in the US
anyhow) "Austerity Britain, 1945-1951" is to be highly recommended. I
landed on Southampton's cavernous platform in September 1954, and

Concerning the WWII post war reconstruction period in Greece.
Greece was to be 90% in the GB (&US) sphere of influence.
(see what wiki tells of Greek Civil War (simplisticly, west v. communists)).
Christmas eve: Double kill19 Jun 2008 21:00 GMT1
On Christmas eve '44, some fifty mustangs of the 357th FG tangled
with about sixty 109s and Focke Wulfs of JG 300  near Fulda.  Lt.
Gilbert claimed two 190s then apparently clashed with Cpl. Hufnagle
and was set on fire.
Battleship Yamato19 Jun 2008 16:52 GMT5
The Yamato and her (two?) sisters were constructed in secret, as I
recall. At what point was her/their existence known to USN and RN
planners and how did this information influence planning? Were the
Allies aware of Yamato's size and capabilities?
Thoughts on "Tirpitz - Hunting the Beast"19 Jun 2008 16:14 GMT329
I'll post some of my thoughts
(no way will I set myself up by calling it a "review"
just a few of IMHO thoughts on this book)
"Tirpitz Hunting the Beast" by John Sweetman,
Introduction: Kitamun16 Jun 2008 22:19 GMT3
Hello Everyone. I am Kitamun.
I have had a life-long interest in the events of World War Two. On
December 7, 1941 I was a six year old ranch kid in West Texas. My
family and I were in town at the county seat to attend Sunday church
Was Yardley a traitor?12 Jun 2008 05:20 GMT9
I'm reading "The Broken Seal" by Ladislas Farago.  ("Operation
Magic and the Secret Road to Pearl Harbor")
It was written in 1967 and might be considered obsolete but it is
worth reading.  At that time Agnes Driscoll's identity had not been

Hello veterans,
I am a junior History major at Princeton University, writing a
research paper on "Charlie and his Orchestra". "Charlie" - Karl
Schwendler - led a group of German jazz musicians that took the
U.S. Navy District Security Office -- San Diego09 Jun 2008 05:44 GMT1
I am doing some genealogical research, and came across someone who was
in the Navy and stationed at the District Security Office (DSO) San
Diego.  I am interested in finding out what went on in these offices
(i.e., what their responsibilities entailed) but have not been able to
Greece & Military Assistance04 Jun 2008 16:00 GMT3
I have questions concerning the post WWII post war and
reconstruction period in Greece.
The powers at the WWII conferences decided that post
war, Greece was to be 90% in the GB (&US) sphere
